Pathfinder Chronicles Miniatures: Ranger of Erastil WIP

Recommended Posts

One of my friends commissioned me to paint this for her. It's a mini from Paizo.com, she picked it up at gencon a few years back.

This Link will take you to where you can get one for yourself if you desire it.

I cut off the base...toughest base I've ever cut off...took me almost a day at work. I rebased and added a log for decoration.

nice work with the base! are they vines on the arms or ribbons? if vines, you could add some to the log to tie it together.

They are vines. An interesting idea, tying them to the log, but probably not the look I want to go for. I don't want her to look bound.

I think Corporea was suggesting adding vines to the log so you'll have "vines on ranger" and "vines on log" making the base feel very relevant to the mini. Not that she'd be draped in the same actual vines as around her arms.

ahh, those are awesome! you could use some thin craft wire- 24-28 gauge and create some twists like vines. you also could use the green stuff for this part. for the leaves either use birch seed leaves or you can sculpt them out of green stuff or sculpey. I've tried all three- the easiest by far is the birch seeds. attach leaves to sculpted vines or wire with superglue- it sticks to either very well. I can snap a pic of some vines I did this PM after work if you want. or just skip the vines altogether and glue leaves to the log and paint on vines.

      Hi chums!

This is the latest Kickstarter project, expanding our fantasy range this time, and bringing light to the ones we have that might not have been noticed. Along with some super cool female minis, we have some brand new scenics too, and a whole bunch of add on bundles.
I'll post more on the lead up, but for now if you're interested, could you click the "notify me" on the pre launch page and it will help the algorithms, and you know algorithms are the new gods!

The merfolk in Dark Depths sculpted by Bobby Jackson were one of the things I was most looking forward to in Bones 5.

I chose the Mermaid Ranger for my RCL Q3 Large Group “Under the Sea”, and started work on her after ReaperCon.

I've been trying to make bolder color choices, and thought this was a great mini to push myself in that direction.

I’ve posted some WIPs on discord, but wanted to record the process here in a bit more detail.

First I primed both rangers with Badger neutral primer, and then basecoated the tails and hair with 0963 Coal Black

Then I tried to airbrush the tails with 09330 Wild Violet while leaving some dark shadows.

Been working on these guys as a test for the squad color scheme. Trying some layering on the white, it's working out well so far.
They're 1:48 scale, same as Star Wars Legion, and I've rebased them onto the same 27mm bases that Legion uses. Mostly because the standard D1947 bases are like 35mm. Way huge.

Presenting the Frost Giant Heroine from Reaper.

Not my best work, I'm still not great at getting all the mold-lines off these PVC minis, plus I was painting her to help work through some issues I was having so she's a bit on the rough and basic side.
Was still a lot of fun to paint up though, I'll have to get the other one done now.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

This is the Bones version of the iconic character, painted in a rather quick and dirty fashion. There was a lot of metal and chain mail, which I did not spend time on, and a few details which I picked out.  In retrospect I could have brightened up the armor some, but since she's likely to go on the table as a generic fighter I didn't feel the need to make her special.
