this is a highlight test mini, there's a Lot of shadow on the underside of the mini and I went over the raised areas with 2/1/1 matt medium stuff / base color / lighter shade. I didn't shade most of the lower left leg as it's sticking out from under his body.

Might be a bit easier to see if you post-process those images. I ran 'em through the Level adjustment in GIMP 2.8 (latest stable, free software, http://www.gimp.org/), which can be found in Colors -> Levels, then look for the Auto button. Just takes a second and results in:

Makes it a bit simpler for those of us with bad eyes to follow along ^_^

Try printing out a few different backdrops (I pre-filtered that list by "large"). Then you can play around with different colors and textures and see what works for you. I favor the warm tone that is featured in most of my Show Off pics, but a lot of people like a mid-tone grey.

We tend to use either a light diffusing box/photo-box or newspaper cutoffs (the endrolls of newsprint; no text, just grey cheap as dirt or free from your local newspaper).

that Was with a light box but my camera recently started having trouble taking pictures of minis, everything is really grainy and it's even harder to get it to focus on the mini's might be time to replace it.
