The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Recommended Posts

It's 3:30am EST on the 14th of December, 2012.

And I have just gotten home from seeing The Hobbit's first installment at the sneak preview.

Quite an excellent movie. I won't go into it much as I assume many of us ReaperHeads will be off to add our hard earned Kickstarter monies towards the movie this weekend.

Personally, our group had no issues with the 48 frame rate nor the 3D. Everything was spectacular looking.

No real grousing to be had from this end aside from the fact that it took some time getting underway.

Look for some familiar faces. Couple of them were surprises, at least to me anyways.

Let's give it the weekend before posting spoilers and what not.

Enjoy the show.

I'd thought about seeing the midnight showing. The maths of a 170min movies starting after midnight and then working the next day didn't mesh. It's good to hear it's good.

I was...pretty disappointed. Many folks groused about the changes and parts left out of LotR, but I thought that trilogy stayed close enough to the source material to make me quite happy.

The Hobbit? Not even close. Same writers/director, so wtf?

Patrick Rothfuss pretty much summed it up for me on his FB page, but I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it. Regardless of how I personally feel about it I think it is a good thing for things I care deeply about (minis, fantasy literature, etc.)

What did he say (I don't know who that is and I don't do FB)?

Let's give it the weekend before posting spoilers and what not.

If you can leave it a bit longer I'd appreciate it. I live in Australia and our release date is Boxing Day.

Yes, I am seeing it on that day.

Yes, the day after Christmas. It's such a ubiquitous term in Australia I hadn't realised it wasn't used in America.

Similar to the U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving. We think everyone celebrates it.

I don't mind the additions to the story. The Hobbit was a childrens book and one thing it lacked was an long term antogonist. At least there is some historical precedent for Azog the Orc, though he really should have been killed by Thorins second cousin Dain (Son of Nain) at the Battle of Azanulbizar. It should be Azog's son Bolg chasing them down if anyone. He's the one who is supposed to lead the Orcs at the Battle of Five armies as well.

Man, I'm a geek. Tolkein Geek!!!

EDIT: typo

      Hello guys and gals!

so this is the first figure I ever painted, even though these aren't that version.  The first version, which is actually the one you see below that was painted first years ago, is actually the original stripped version that I would have painted when is was probably about twelve.  The original one was painted in model enamel colors, with pink skin, yellow hair and shirts, green paints and I think grey cloak.  I ended up getting back into minis again way back and stripped him before I knew about EBay and was able to get a second copy.  So here's the one I just finished painted a few nights ago:

and here's the one I painted I think in about 2004:

      and here they are together:

So anyways, just thought it would be fun to post, now I'm off to go make some organic pancakes for breakfast!

      Enjoy!

Kickstarter for a Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers inspired movie, "Netflix-y" in production value and style. Jason David Frank is headlining, and we all know that the Green Ranger/White Ranger is the best Ranger. Figured there's a good chance that there's some MMPR fans in the Reaper community, wanted to get the word out.

      About
      VERSION FRANCAISE
COMMANDO NINJA is an 80's action comedy, tribute to the Action Hero Movies, written and directed by Benjamin Combes.
The story follows a Vietnam Green Beret Vet, Half Commando, Half Ninja, whose daughter has been abducted by a secret Ninja Organization, led by a Central-American dictator, who wants to create a new-world order... through time...

When I started this project over a year and a half ago, I was driven by a strong love for the 80s (This is David Sandbergs line but I can't say better).
I watched again all Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Dolph Lundgren movies; wrote my script, took $5000 of my own money and just started shooting whenever my friends and I had time!
We have now enough material to create a 45 minute long film!
Commando Ninja takes place in a variety of exotic locations:
1980s Los Angeles, Canada mountains, Vietnam War, Central-America, Post-Apocalypse...
John will live an adventure through many places ... and times  Everything was shot on real sets, with practical VFX, as they did in the 80's! There is absolutely no way we shoot something on a green screen!
The soundtrack of the movie will feature famous Synthwave artists like Cobra Copter, Flash Arnold and OGRE.
The original soundtrack has been composed by a great music composer, Thomas Cappeau, and is by itself a love letter to the 80's action movie soundtracks :

Other famous artists from the 80's revival wave joined the project, among them :
       - Blood+Chrome made the Commando Ninja animated logo
