One of each (including the unicorn), and doubles and triples in some cases. Since I do not foresee a situation with multiple unicorns, one of those will suffice.

Naturally, this means the first time we encounter some there'll be two or three. Well, all I can say to that is that with some scotch tape and a cracked toothpick a horse can stand in.

I have a vision of goblin knights clad in their shining pots and pans, riding forth on their trusty mule unicorn steeds

the carrots would be hanging off of their own horns instead of sticks held by the Gobs. So convenient! ^_^

anyone else order one of one of each? (cough besides that unicorn cough cough)

(Innocently) Any particular reason why not?

Although, after all the discussion above, the idea of painting up a black unicorn as the mount for the leader of a unit of undead cavalry now has a certain morbid appeal. . . . Hmm. banshee or another vampire as the rider?

. . . .And wasn't there discussion about a spectral calliope?

It depends on how it's used. All of my good Sir Shiny and Cleric Goodheart characters always, naturally, have a peace and love vibe going with the fey beings.

So you'd expect my rougher, more violent, chaotic neutrals wouldn't. But, see, the thing is that a fairy, or pixie, or other sparkly silly little creature is only that way until you make it angry. And you don't always know what will make it angry. And let me tell you, one of the scariest things you can ever encounter, guaranteed to traumatize even the most hard-hearted Doomguard, is a Pixie out to avenge the special blue violet flower it dearly loved that you stepped on or picked.

Or it might not even be your fault. You're on your way someplace, minding your own business, ready to take the battle to Lord Darkheart of Maliceburg and you just happen to need to pass through a peaceful, green, flowering glen of beauty. So you camp, because it looks nice, and safe, and no trouble could find you here.

And that's when you learn the hard way that the creatures who live there are nastily unfond of The Bigs because some careless barbarian mook stomped Tiny Town on his way to get some loot.

So you might think a unicorn is lovey-dovey, but it don't look so lovey-dovey when you're rousted out of your bedroll at sunrise in your heroic undies and running as fast as you can to avoid a robust goring.

Plus they're smart, and know how to work together.

Now that I think on it, I should have bought more than one. A unicorn pack, working like velociraptors.

In the Garret, P.I. series (Glen Cook), unicorns apparently are velociraptors. He never describes them, but dewclaws, sharp teeth, and carnivorous habits all come up.
