Mistimp
I would so like to play this. Unfortunately I am on the hook for a local rpg con here in Brevard in October (and asking for more than one weekend off in the same month makes my boss's head spin like a character in a bad 80's horror movie). And driving clear across the state to Tampa would require the whole weekend. I love the work you did on the minis, and the narrative was just awesome. Thanks for sharing. Jordan Peacock
Well, it looks like it's that time of year again: game registration time for Necronomicon convention! (Oct 3-5, 2014, Tampa, Florida -- http://www.stonehill.org/necro.htm ) I had all of two people ask me about whether I'd be running with the pony adventurers again, and for me, two is enough to call a TREND (I have a tendency to exaggerate), so why not? There were actually several terrain pieces and monsters I didn't get to put on the table last year, and a few things I've been working on (although, more off than on) since then. One incomplete project I was inspired to go ahead and wrap up recently would be the companion piece to Frankensteed: THE BRIDLE OF FRANKENSTEED! (Two really bad puns for the price of one!) This one is based off of a "Rarity" clone 2" PVC pony toy, modified with Apoxie Sculpt 2-part epoxy putty (as per usual), and placed on a HeroClix base (approx. 1.5" diameter). The terrain piece used for presentation is a busted "Wayne Manor" Batman playset piece I picked up in a thrift store, supplemented with cardstock, foam, and Hirst Arts Castlemolds pieces (such as the archway just behind the figure). This year's theme at Necronomicon is "pulp action / weird science," so I'm a bit torn on what I should do next. Although right now I've got a bunch of medievalish pony heroes, I was thinking about perhaps making a "Mad Scientist" pony (I feel like I need some more puns), and then having some silly/macabre creations such as the "Sawhorses." I was also toying with the idea of having a whole crew of pony PIRATES (I've got plenty of puns for those), but that just doesn't fit the theme at all. One random idea I had was to do a spin on my old "Advanced MonsterQuest" scenario, and have the heroes play "classic movie monsters" (as ponies) and fend off an angry pitchfork-wielding mob. (HOW do horses carry pitchforks? I've no idea.) Other classic-monster-pony PCs would include: * A Vampire. (Vampony? Colt Dracula? Or, Nosfer-trot-u? These puns are getting pretty strained.) * A Mummy. (A mummare? Im-hoof-tep? It ought to be an easy conversion, anyway, though for extra bonus points I could make some fancy "gold" jewelry.) * The Hippocampus from the Black Lagoon? * A ... Werewolf? (Hmm. This is where it gets pretty tortured. Is it a half-pony, half-wolf? How can I work a pun into that? Augh! I've set the pun bar too high!) * The Filly of the Opera? And then a mad doctor and a "hunchback," I guess, to add to Frankensteed's Monster and the Bridle to make 9. Six PC-types would be minimum, but 9 would be nice so there's a bit of choice and nobody's just STUCK with the last character left at the table. Anyway, random idea generation is easy. It's the finishing up the actual figures that's tough. ;) I've still got a few PVC ponies from the oversized "grab bag" of mis-prints I got off Ebay, but if I have TOO many ideas, I might have to see if I can get a few more.
Dilvish the Deliverer
Damn, here we go again. You making my procrastinating on a set of pony adventurers for my wife and daughters much more difficult with all of this productivity. I insist you cease and desist right now! Really they are looking good, and my pitiful attempts at replication shall begin shortly after my return home. I'll be watching to pick up any tricks or lessons learned.
Sanwah
* A ... Werewolf? (Hmm. This is where it gets pretty tortured. Is it a half-pony, half-wolf? How can I work a pun into that? Augh! I've set the pun bar too high!) It would have to be a Werehoof...surely Edit: I tried to quote...but it got chewed up somehow. Edit agian: I love this concept.....I was looking at Ponyfinder (yes, there is such a game) and then this....it is destiny!! Nocturne
Vampire ponies could be a relatively straightforward wing conversion on a pegasus figure. Sadly the minifig range doesn't have much outside of the ponies to work with, as on the wolf front a timberwolf figure would have been very useful here
Jordan Peacock
Pun update for the Monster Ponies, based on assorted feedback, etc.: For the Hunchback, either: * The Swayback of Notre Dame (deviating from the "Dr. Frankensteed's assistant" role) or * I-yor (using a 2" Eeyore cake topper and painting it up with a spooky wall-eyed look, and then encouraging the player to say stuff like "Don't worry, Master, it's oooonly me," in a droopy downtrodden voice.) ... For the Phantom: * The Phantom of the Horse Opera (Yeah, I know, a pun isn't as good if you have to explain it. Horse Opera = derogatory term for classic TV westerns. As in, "soap opera, but with horses.") ... For the Werewolf / Wolfman (but not), etc. * The Wolfmare (although a "Werehoof" is a pretty good one, too -- thanks, @Sanwah!)

Nocturne
(HOW do horses carry pitchforks? I've no idea.) This still breaks my mind so pitchforks must be doable. Instinct says carried in mouth when walking, on hind legs and in forelimbs when being used.

Presto, done! :D (And, of course, some of the other creatures that crop up, such as Timberwolves.)

Jordan Peacock
(example deleted) ... Yay! I confess, I don't patrol that part of the toy store, and I haven't gone shopping for plastic ponies since the scenario I ran last year (I ended up with quite a few extras), so I guess I'm a bit behind when it comes to keeping up on new offerings. :) Thanks for the link! (Looks like I'll have an alternative bard to add to the party.)
Jordan Peacock
Captain Hoof! Special thanks to Chris Stadler for help with punny pony pirate names. (Originally the name was going to be "Captain Coltless," which is kind of lame in retrospect.) It wasn't until more recently that I finished up his personal conveyance: a Happy Meal or some-such toy ship I found loose in a thrift store junk bin, and originally had intended to fix up as a 3D ship for my Pirates RPG tabletop games, but my snap-judgement of scale when eyeballing the toy was GROSSLY off. I filled in some gaps with putty, used a "Pirate Battles" mermaid figure with a bit more putty to make a "seahorse / maremaid" figurehead for the ship (not pictured, but not exactly worth celebrating either), and used a couple of banners from my Games Workshop "bitz bag" to loosely represent some sort of sails (removable for storage). It just so happens that the 1.5" diameter Clix base fits snug and stable right in the middle of the ship (I just perched him there in the first place in a fit of silliness) and so I decided to stick with it. I haven't figured out yet whether this ship is going to figure into anything or not. If he's an ADVERSARY, then I suppose he could just have a mini-pirate-ship as part of his encounter for extra weirdness. If he's a hero, then in Savage Worlds terms perhaps he has a power that's a very specific trapping and formulation of the "barrier" power (the "barrier" taking the form of a mini pirate ship, and the damage trapping being that if you attempt to board or break through it you get a face-full of tiny broadsides -- KABOOM!). I don't expect to have too many water barriers where an actual (mini) sailing ship is going to come in very handy. If all else fails, he just has a really cool decorative base to stand on at the table when I'm setting up the game and players are choosing their characters. (But then, I'd start to feel pressure to give the other heroes some sort of "scene-setting base" as well, and this could get out of hand. ;) )
LittleBluberry
I am very, very late to this thread, which is a shame because it is undeniably awesome! My daughters have enough ponies that we could probably run a less pun-tastic scenario with no modifications, and I could use Bones monsters at the bad guys. Best part is that I can actually just give them the idea and leave them to it. (Hopefully.) I was going to do this with the Bones 2 Mouselings, but ponies can work while we wait. Thank you for sharing everything, it was inspiring!

Jordan Peacock
Just in case anyone would be interested in actually PLAYING in one of these scenarios, and might happen to be in the Tampa Bay (Florida) area in early October: I'll be running the "Bridle of Frankensteed" on Friday, October 3rd, from 4-8 pm at Necronomicon 2014 at the Grand Hyatt (Tampa Bay) in Tampa, Florida. More information on Necronomicon (a sci-fi/fantasy/horror/gaming/fiction convention held in the St. Petersburg/Tampa area in Florida every year), you can visit this site: http://www.stonehill.org/necro.htm
