Here be dragons! 2013 paint challenge

Nah, it's Christmas Eve! No one will expect you to work that day anyway. :;):

You would be surprised of all the kind of hard work that seems to blow up into my little office space during the 24th and 31st. But I am slowly convincing them it will be ok if I am on call on the phone ;)

if you are doing successive layers of seals i strongly suggest that you use a gloss sealer up until the final seal. gloss mediums are typically just pure acrylic medium with no pigment or additives but matte sealers contain small amounts of non transparent material to refract light and disrupt reflections. because matte sealer is not perfectly clear it will cause bright colors to become dull or frost. i like golden GAC-100 all purpose acrylic medium for just about everything (gunk, non-final sealing etc). if you are going to matte it, the gloss shouldn't matter and will actually make for a brighter/clearer PJ.

edit: try a layer of gloss to fix the frost - the acrylic medium may help reactivate the layer and fill the texture without giving you a greasy mini (i would not recommend cooking oil or floor wax). any spots that still look crappy will need to be repainted.

Thanks for the tips. I don't have easy access to a lot of materials. I will try with Vallejo Matte Medium first, however, since it seems safer than future or oil, and see if it reactivates the sealer area and allows me to salvage it. Truth be told, it is mainly in an area of the mini that will be against a terrain feature, so most of it can be "hidden"... except for a few spots here and there. If I can solve them, all the best. If not, some creative mud will hit the mini and I will simulate dirt. Dwarves get dirty a lot, being so close to the ground, right?

A question for Inarah/Monkeysloth: How strict are we going to be to "disqualify" an entry with more than 4 pictures in the Diorama thread? There are 2 entries already with more than 4 pics uploaded, and it is understandable since sometimes the scale of a diorama makes you want to take many pictures of it, for all the details, but I am also Legal Good and "a rule is a rule, and that's a rule", so...

I know this is for fun, mostly, but whenever there are prices things can get a little more touchy.

So after months of no painting, i started basecoating a frost worm as my subject to test the colors i plan on using on Gauth...i guess this means i have failed on getting a dragon painted this year :;(: gooD news is I ACTUALLY DID SOME PAINTING!

But i am seeing some sweet looking dragons being entered into this contest.

ooops, you're right :wow: I've removed superfluous pics of my entry, but, in my opinion, additional angles would just show all details better so that judges/viewers can assess quality of every piece and side of entries ::): Waiting for Inarah's and/or MonkeySloth's decision and will add those removed photos again if they approve it.

I haven't talked with Monkeysloth yet about disqualifying anyone.

The idea is to set an even ground for judging the entries. Yes, there's lots of detail on the figures, but pick your 4 best photos to submit. Show us the work you're particularly proud of. If you want to show off every possible angle and detail, there is a Show Off forum for that.

Mmm... so we need to pick the best 4 to qualify then?

It is all part of the challenge then, to try to fit most of the details in only 4 pics! If you reconsider, perhaps 6? In a big thing like a display diorama, depth of field for cameras focusing on things so small can be tricky to fit a lot in closeups.
