These are not yet the Bones L2PKs, correct?

 

No, I expect the Bones ones will come with an announcement. So far I don't think the Bones kits have a firm ETA announced. It's more like "We'd like to do it for (time X) if we can." But the Reaperinos have a lot on their plate so if'n you ask me, I don't think we'll see a Bones kit until after the Kickstarter deliveries at the soonest. I figure the working estimate now is realistically "sometime in 2013".

 

There's a metal Kit 6 listed on the back of some of the current paint kits . . . Kit 6 has yet to materialize half a decade later. This is the origin of the Reaper Soon joke. Reaper's always got lots of neat new cool things to try out and amaze us, but the various resource demands mean some things show up late, sometimes not at all. So until there's a definite, firm, absolute date given then it's best to assume it's not going to be very Soon.

I'm not holding my breath on the bones but I'm just frigging ecstatic that I could get kit's 2-5 after all the trouble I had trying to get them from amazon.

So that it doesn't seem like I'm criticizing Reaper for Soon, I think I ought to elaborate a little.

 

We know Reaper isn't as big as they appear, and have finite resources. So when they make plans they have to juggle a goodly few things. To get a little Donald Rumsfeld, it's about known unknowns and unknown unknowns.

 

Known unknowns are thing like regular expansion: what do people want, what gaps are there to fill, what resources there are, how much of X do they expect to need, and what priority should a, b, c, and q be given. It's part math, part educated guess. But not every good idea turns out to be a good idea, and sometimes things don't meet predicted results.

 

Then there's unknown unknowns. A price hike in metal is one. The sudden loss of a good supply of pro paint pots is another. Probably the biggest is the Kickstarter. So if in January the plan was to do x, y, and z then come May the situation might be different and things reprioritized.

 

So far as I can tell, the Bones KS wasn't a serious topic even as close as June 2012, a mere 7 months ago. Then when it was a serious topic, the various necessary logistics had to be worked out without knowing precisely how successful it would be and to what extent it would consume resources and cause disruption. Simultaneously, regular business had to continue.

 

Soon is just reality encroaching on Reaper's, and our, funtimes. While sometimes it means ideas remain vapourware, or are short-lived, most times it works out - and the Bones KS is the best example of it. Most of us here would readily agree that we'd rather Reaper modify plans to try and do cool things like that when the opportunity presents, and that we benefit as a result, rather than follow exactly the plan originally laid out before said opportunity came around.

 

I'd also like to note that I have two of the Warlord paint instruction inserts: Reven and Necropolis. They came in an order or two when the Warlord paint sets were a plan. Seems like it was a pretty neat idea, shame it didn't work out. I also have a fold-out for New Pro Paints. It's like the start of a museum. Or service time badges.

I have kit #1 and #2 (not yet done with any minis though) and just ordered #4 and #5. I will hold off on #3 for now. I hope to join the WIP threads and complete the kits prior to Bones arriving. Wish me luck!

You need to just explain it calmly, precisely, and rationally. Something like so:

 

"But you don't understand, honey! These are Reaper paint kits! They're harder to get than Cabbage Patch Kids! Tickle Me Elmos! When they're in stock, you have to get it right away or you might be waiting months. Months! And it's all the stupid goblin's fault! He keeps telling people to buy them and creating demand!"

 

Her: "Wait, it's the goblin's fault?"

 

"YES!!!"

 

Her: "The goblin."

 

"Yes, it's all the goblin's fault. Why do I have to keep saying it? It's all the goblin's fault!"

 

Her: "It's the goblin's fault you can't get any paint kits because the goblin makes people want them too badly, is that what you're saying?"

 

"YES! Yes that's what I'm saying exactly!"

 

Her: "Does this goblin have a name?"
