Didn't get him posted last night, but here he is: week three. A bit more rough than the others in the party so far, but I wanted to get him done in time for the game last night. And a good thing, too, owlbears seem to fall harder against painted PCs than unpainted ones!

...owlbears. What sick mind..?...

Anywho. I'm pretty happy with his stubble. The shadowy green of the cloak isn't the worst thing I've ever painted, and it's the result of some experimentation with a red glaze over the green. The blacks...well, those need some work, I think. The party's wizard will get some of this treatment this week, and I'm hoping to tighten up the transitions a bit.

Let me know what y'all think!

Pocket, Thanks!

Baugi...the base is nothing more than my usual pumice paste (mine is the "Ceramic Stucco Texture Gel" from Liquitex), drybrushed up. If you haven't used a pumice paste, it's my favoritest favorite thing of all favorite things for basing. Just spread it on the base, thicker if you want to add little waves of coarser texture (probably the "roots" you see on Dub, here) or thinner if all you want is dirt on the ground. Then paint it as you would anything else. If you want to get crazy, you can even mix paint into it to give it color first. It's basically the GW "texture" paints, but costs a lot less per ounce and doesn't dry out within a month.

Anyway, the base on this guy is the pumice paste, basecoated in Muddy Brown, washed in Blackened Brown, then drybrushed up in consecutively smaller amounts of Sandy Brown, Worn Olive and Creamy Ivory. Once I have the whole party of PCs done, I'll do some patches of static grass on each of them.

This is a solid paint job; good skin tone, excellent capturing of the facial expression, the beard and the base. The color choices you made compliment themselves nicely and he retains that rogue look.

The one issue I'm struggling with is a common problem that I've seen in the tone of shading. The depth of the shading on his clothes, cloak and his boots, doesn't match the same depth of shading on his skin of his arms and his neck.

Adrift: It's often a problem, you're right. For me, the fabric is the fun part, so I take it a lot further than I ever do with skin; I'll admit to still being timid with skin! This is one of the things I'd like to work on as I paint more than ever this year.

Badocter: He's actually sculpted as giving a "come over here, I got somethin' ta show ya..." finger-crook. The photos make it hard to tell, though. I've often thought about adding another little sausage to this figure's hand to make the more British two-fingered salute, but that wasn't in the cards for this PC. Someday, perhaps!

All: thanks for the comments, everyone!

It isn't easy for sure, but I see a lot of great stuff in your work so I thought I'd make the suggestion. Sometimes, we all need a little push. ^_^
