Just about done. Stomach bug is good for one thing, sitting at home with a project I can set down at a moment's notice...

Everything but the flesh and hair is pretty much done. For some reason the consistency of the green/brown was really fighting me. I was going to get fancier, but just getting in the tonal gradient was a pain. Once again, tried to make the leathers a bit different here and there with some glazes and highlighting a couple different paths. Bedroll I just did like Dain's, taking the top end leather highlights way higher to simulate a coarse cloth.

I had a look at the final. I cried, threw away my metallic paints, snapped my brushes, and gouged out my eyes so that the last thing I ever saw would be that NMM gold. Of course, as it turned out, for some reason the final image I can't get rid of is Buglip's avatar. Hail Cobra, over and over, forever.

I just started on Tyden this afternoon. People don't seem to respond as well to the earlier WIP shots, so I'll start with her completed base coat. Right now she's lined, and the skin, gold and fur has been base coated. That took about four hours :) I'm sooo slow. Actually, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad if my Bronzed Shadow wasn't really off in consistency. The skin took forever and I still ended up with some weird clumpy spots.

Tyden basecoated (and some lining with thinned walnut).

Running around chopping up goblins in a bikini means she's probably pretty tan. Since I've already done several Tanned Skin-based models, I went for Bronzed Skin this time around. Going back to my redhead formula, but I'm going to try and glint it up like I did Anduriel, maybe push it more into blonde due to the sun. Won't know til I get there and start playing around.

The rest is kit 3 recipes.

Apologies for the weird pics, playing around with different ideas for that, too :)

Thanks! Ok, promised some commentary.

I think female flesh is tough for two reasons. First, it's less defined than the typical musclehead male fantasy model. Second, it requires a lot smoother blending across larger swaths.

Anne's instructions must be pretty good because I still feel like I'm just fumbling my way along yet the results are more often decent than atrocious. I think this model steel turned out pretty decent. I think the sword is a bit weak, but it's got an odd bevel on the two upper angles that was throwing me.

No pics of the gold until we head over to Show Off, but I think my gold fu was pretty weak on this one. I was a bit rushed and distracted, but also it was almost all playing to the techniques that were weak on Anduriel. Good practice but far weaker than Ororo (where I played to my strengths).

And off goes Tyden to be a big http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/47697-02608-tyden-barbarian/'>Show Off!

This kit is worth its weight in (nmm) gold!

Oh! And I used my WNS7 #1 a lot more on this one, just for something different. I tried putting in more time with the 3/0 but it's just too limited (eyes only). I do prefer the 3/0 to the miniature 0, though. Bigger body, though at that size it's not saying much.

And a quick thought on pulling off NMM. I really need to lay out all the spectrum I'm using, maybe 5-6 hues from the darkest to white. As I work my way up (following Anne's instruction to lay in the white first to mark out my mental map of the effect), I can quickly work back and forth with the different colors to both fix mistakes and adjust the spectrum of the effect. As I said, I got a bit lazy with the gold on Tyden, but on Ororo you can see the effect of really taking the time to tweak the blending until it looks convincing.

I use a wet palette to lay out the hues, and once I find my errant hot glue gun, I've got an upgrade in mind for it...I ran out of room for Tyden's gold spectrum, one of the reasons I rushed it.

Odd factoid from the project: Despite painting her during the Bond marathon on tv, the NMM gold was painted during Thunderball, not Goldfinger (the steel was painted during that).
