My fiancee has expressed interest in trying a co-op minis board game...but she loathes zombies. She's a fiction librarian, so she's had to put up with the hordes of bad zombie fad fiction that have been going around for a while now.

If only there were a Victorian England setting co-op game without mythical/fantasy creatures. Ah, well.

Swap out the zombies for giant bug minis. Spirit Halloween has some nice glow in the dark giant ants this year to round out the roaches, rats, spiders and flies.

It might be too late to hit the Halloween isles, but here is a set that actually pretty good. I splurged and got the 216 count bucket at a teacher supply store. http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Backyard-Bugs-Counters/dp/B000296LPC

I like the shooting into melee rule. Instead of just barging through the map, it makes you think a bit and use some strategy.

Yeah. In a co op game, it is for the best. Otherwise the game has to nerf the guns overall or have a random chance to hit an ally which will cause some folks to get pouty when they catch buckshot to the face. Because no matter how much you numerically prove risking hitting them was worthwhile, they will still be complaining all god blasted night over the one tiny bullet that killed them,

That stack of 224 pledges in the last update they've suddenly found with no tracking information despite being confirmed before the date they said they would be shipped by yeah, one of them is mine.

At least I know it exists I suppose.

Second impression: played the tutorial scenario in Zombicide Season1 solo for the first time. I am impressed with the simplicity of play and think the quick play should keep non-gaming nerds interested. So....waiting on the wife to get home and try to convince her to play the tutorial scenario with me.

-kind of excited KB.

I have read a few rules a klitzy and a few characters skills are unbalanced. I suspect i will see ths as i get into the other scenarios. I have already decided that a character can only search a room once. Otherwise everyroom would be like a hardware store.

The wife and i made it half way through a game before the KruleBear cub threw an attention grabbing tantrum. So far she is not repulsed by the game. Score!

I have to proxy in 3 minis until I can paint the 3 I primed for Paint Day (and left sitting on the kitchen counter). Then clean the accumulated boxes off the dinner table (they keep sending me minis!), the tutorial worked on the coffee table but I'll need more for that big spread.

Yes, I'm semi-bachelor, muahaha.

I decided to only paint the survivors. I'm not painting the zombies at this point, you can get a card that spawns 7 zombies in a square, after someone goes in with a chainsaw and clears them out, they just get scooped up and thrown on the zombie pile. A lot quicker than picking up individually and placing down carefully so as not to damage the paint.

A friend of mine who got us into the game has a useful painting convention: all Runners get their clothes painted in very bright colors (vivid oranges, etc). This makes 'em easier to pick out in groups, which prevents poor strategic decision making due to missing any of 'em lurking in adjacent squares, waiting to pounce!

There are definitely skills that are better than others, but having played several scenarios most of them are the most useful in some circumstance. That being said, I love the new Steady Hand one; it's aces in any map with a car :)
