02542: Bulgoth, Troll King

Recommended Posts

I like the blue color and the base. You should make a Necklace with bones out of green stuff. Another possibility would be a necklace out of human skulls. On Ebay you can normally buy 28mm skulls.

I think I have an ettin and ogre (holding a goblin) and should paint them, too. They will be blue, too! :-)

I have an Ogre Mage from Ral Partha, but this one will be more purpur or black.

I like this troll king model, I hope I find a possibility to get him sooner or later.

I went for a bioluminescent appearance to his warts, b/c I figured he's been alive long enough that he'd have developed some kind of special hunting ability.

I also like that dark blue skin tone, I definitely need to paint a blue skinned creature too, that's just way too cool. The color of his claws and spikes are very nice as well.

Nice! How'd you do the rust?

Thinned down ruddy leather. I basically painted the steel NMM and then did a pair of ruddy leather glazes.

Wow! Fantastic! I really love the blues and the cavern base is awesome. You are really putting a lot of thought into your scene set up and it is really showing. Your painting skills have improved a lot since the first time I saw your stuff on the forums and you keep improving with every mini because of your willingness to try new things and push your boundaries. Keep up the fantastic work my friend and you will be giving classes at Reapercon.

Nice skin and warts. I love the base. I feel the same way about mushrooms. Smash them before they pollute the dinner plate. ::):

I'm not really a fan of mushrooms, but in this case I was thinking he was guarding his prize mushrooms against some adventuring dwarves set on raiding his stash for their latest dwarven brew.

My first time posting to this forum, please let me know if I misstep :p

Reaper Bones Black: 44002 Rock Troll

I added a more rocky base using rock and some plastic crystals carved from leftover plastic sprue. Also added some more crystals to his elbows and side. The elbows were just because I thought it would make it look more menacing but the one on his side was because of a huge hole leftover from the moulding process. To take care of assembly lines I used some of the rock I cracked apart for the base.

I still have the belt and pouch to do, along with the base and some smoothing if blends in his muscles.

      Feedback and CC most welcome!!!

Here's the bones Cave Troll!  I painted some of the pustules red with white-heads on them...very gross and troll-ey.  :)

Only used 8 colors for the troll. Base coated him in Reaper's troll flesh and harvest brown for the loincloth. Then a wash with citadel Nuln oil wash and Vallejo sepia wash for the cloth. Next a highlight of orc flesh over almost all of the muscles leaving just enough of the base and wash showing for the deep valleys of the muscles. Finally a glaze of troll flesh over the whole thing to blend it all together. Final touches were desert sand for the claws/teeth, coal black for the hair which was highlighted with Dark elf highlights and ogre flesh for the eyes. I think some of the new troll from Bones 4 have probably surpassed this old cave troll but one reason I like him is that he is the same size and almost the same look as the old DnD chainmail battered troll skeleton mini.
