02558: Anduriel, Elf Warrior

So here's the results of my first lesson in NMM. Thanks, Anne! Overall I have to say I'm pretty happy with how he came out (I hope you're sitting down!).

 

 

I also went a bit further with the hair thanks to ttuckerman mentioning Oiled Leather as a shade for blond hair, and I decided to punch up a couple highlights in my quest to work on my contrast. Now I need to go back and revamp my cloth and leather techniques! I like the effect I got glazing a dark red over the little scroll case or whatever it is, tucked between the sheaths and bedroll.

 

Tried for some blue/green eyes but it didn't photograph well. I'll probably get an eyeroll (hah) from my fiancee, she likes to make fun of the freaky eyes I give characters in video games.

 

And for fun, here's an elf I did back in the 90s for comparison.

Did you do kit 3? Trust me, my interpretation of the instructions is pretty sketchy :) Anne gives some good color formulas and basic theory that made my sketchy painting look pretty decent.

I haven't done any of the kits, I know the theory behind it (even took a class at ReaperCon), it just my execution isn't too good

I love, love, love this composition! Your work literally has added this mini to my list of 'to be acquired'.

 

The only thing I'd encourage you to do is focus more on enhancing your basing b/c your painting skills are too good to stick with a broccoli base.

Wicked nice! One of these days I need to give NMM a shot.. I just need to paint more regularly first. I wholeheartedly agree with you about the map/scroll case. It is just enough to separate it from the rest of the item on the belt but not enough to be glaringly out of place. Good use of color selection on the whole mini,
