Dwarf Ulfar

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm calling this guy done. This is my second mini in 20 years, it's not the greatest but I like him. (It doesn't look too bad a few feet away :)

Here is the WIP:

Thanks for fixing the photo, Badocter!

Comments and critique/tips welcome.

He dosen't look that bad in the photo either. In fact i think he looks great! Good colors and a great job on the face. If i am to nitpick i'm personally fond of a mine between the eye and the face to make it stand out more. I also feel that the shirt below the belt could use abit more attention*. But as i said that's nitpicking.

* i'm aware that my choice of words opened up for a few "below the belt" jokes.

Thanks for the feedback Patrik. I agree with you that part of the shirt is half-arsed. I had trouble finding any natural lines to shade, and had a couple of accidents there, one involving metallic aged bronze and the other an over zealous application of liner.

I've tried to outline the eye too, but lack the skills to do it. I even omitted eyebrows so I wouldn't ruin what I already did lol.

Very crisp paintjob, but hard to tell the colors from the photo because it looks like something threw off the white balance of the camera and gave the whole picture a yellow tinge. Here is your photo after I made a couple attempts use photoshop to correct for the white balance. Since I do not have the mini in hand, do either of these look any closer to actual?

Thanks Badocter, that looks a lot more like it, though the bright white spots on his sleeve are just a hair less brilliant on the mini.

I forgot to say that the bottom one is closest to the real mini.

So, I just had to show off this pic.  I'm playing in a 5e Rappan Athuk campaign, and needed to make 3 characters.  I chose to model mine after the characters from the old Lost Vikings video game.

In order from left to right:
Olaf the Stout, Life Domain Cleric.
Baelog the Fierce, Totem Warrior Barbarian.
Erik the Swift, Battlenaster Fighter (my main).

Sorry, I just really loved this picture.

I liked painting the dark skin of this one, as opposed to the lighter skinned dwarves I've been doing.  I enjoyed this one a lot!  It'll finish out my trio of dwarves for the current campaign I'm in.

Meh, needed a cleric for my party.  Seemed a decent fit.

So I needed a break from all the Bones 4 minis. And dug into the Bones 3 stash for variations sake.
I found one of my old modules -The Village of Hommlet, and spent some time reading. Ah, The Moathouse! Brings back memories!
And I got inspired to do the Bandits from the Bones 3 Stoneskull expansion, as they were similar in style to the ones I recently painted. And to flesh out the band, I added a couple of other Bones 3 minis that were in the same drawer, and that I thought might fit in a band of robbers.
      One quick paint job later:

I want your money...and your life!
From the "Dwarf Kings Companions" add-on set, this is the
      77574 Dwarf Royal Weaponmaster
      Sculpted by Jason Wiebe
      30mm base

Just add the bones 4 ones to this lot, and there we have a goodly group of bandits.  Or a unit of irregulars / rabble or whatnot in some wargame or other.

My first attempt for this miniature.  Thoughts?
