I am fortunate that my wife is a musician/music teacher and has a ton of instruments. Her stuff takes WAY more space than mine will. Of course, I also don't own any piano sized minis. And we'll just ignore that half the basement is dedicated to minis and gaming, and she doesn't have a dedicated studio or conservatory... I still have nightmares more than a decade later. My collection of minis fits in a plastic three drawer organizer. So I'm not hoarding. I haven't really indulged too much in buying instruments, something I hope to rectify. Still, I have my old gigging pro bass (an ESP export custom), my Gibson SG, my classical, my acoustic, my Baby Taylor, my junker, my cheapo classical (I keep that under my desk at work), my drums, recording gear, Fender Deluxe Reverb, Boss GT6 and Fulldrive, Ampeg 8x10, Peavey MkIII...so just a couple things, really. I started using them for RPGs, found out there were some games attached, so I bought more. Bought more that looked cool. Bought more for RPGs. Bought more that were "collectible"/ LE. Bought more because my kids are getting interested in dad's tin soldiers. I have dreams of painting them, but painting often takes a back seat to everything else right now. I'm not a fast painter on a good day. I figure I have enough minis now to paint to last me a lifetime. Oh, new releases? Sweet, let me see... ^ This. For many years, as evidenced by my forum name. And my avatar reflects my favorite band, not my painting speed. Lately, though, I have been limiting my collecting to a select few boutique/unique models, plus smaller groups only as needed for a couple of games. And those games are just the ones I have better than a snowball's chance of actually playing. Occasionally over the past 5 years or so, I've sold of some chunks of the (un)primed masses. Even after doing this a few more times in the coming years, I will still have a lifetime of minis to paint. I love finding Reaper minis especially to match my roleplaying characters. I actually reached a point where I just started making them into characters. I even use the name on the blister pack. And where a Reaper analogue monster exists I adjust the game stats to match the miniature. So if they have an eye beast with 20 eyes, then the eye beast I send into action has 20 eye powers. And you know what? It's a lot more fun this way. Particularly as conversion allows me to operate a creature shop of infinite horror. Coming soon, the robotentacle-explobold eye terror of infinite tears and harm!
