They made some truly terrible decisions. $231,000.00 USD is a LOT of money.

Not really, 8 employees at $32k a year (assuming they're in it for the love of the game and are willing to take survival wages) and rent at 5k a month. That's 300k before you even touch the raw materials, cost of sculpts, and shipping.

The biggest issue I see with Kickstarters is that they don't get their product out fast enough to capitalize on their initial moment of fame. I can hear the marketing group crying from the other coast.

Nope. They don't have any Rackham people working for them. If they did I doubt they'd have as many sculpting mistakes that they had (thing not working well for molds) that caused them to stop work on KS1 to redo a huge chunk of the line.

I bet they're waiting for their legal battle against their landlord to end for a cash injection. Doubt they'll ever get said money even if they win though.

I backed Drake II on the premise that they were fulfilling KS1 when they started it.  I thought it was a mater of just getting everything shipped.  the details since then have not been promising. (ie re-sculpting, bad property purchase)

They just put the army that I ordered on sale on their web store.  But they dumped the Sartin dragon in with the Rish figures bundle.

This may mean that they have the Rish infantry and small riding dragons done, but not the armored dragon leader.  So they are recombining and selling what they do have.

ah well.

Well......without getting myself into trouble I can only say that in my own personal experience over the past 8 years in the industry I have never employed anyone beyond subcontracting with moldmaker / casters and I have delivered three times ( well much more actually ) the amount of product that Drake 1 promised. I also have never rented a separate space for my buisness. I also left the actual production of the figures to experienced professionals.

I think that's what got Drake--trying to do everything but the 3d printing in house with people that have only done movie props before.  They should have worked with a castor who would have helped them figure out troublesome sculpts before a bunch of molds and resin were wasted trying to make some of their models.  Once they learned all that, after a year to two, they could have expanded if the game was catching on.

The models that they showed in KS were not moldable in anyway other than to be cut into several parts. The more parts a models needs to be cut into the more important it is to be an expert mold maker and caster to get those parts to go back together again. Their first and foremost problem is that they just did not know how to design a miniature.

An update https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/agm/drake-the-dragon-wargame/posts/1000332 basically admitting to the fact money was mismanaged and to many staff were hired. The good news benji & his business partner (might be the only 2 involved now)are keep on keeping on. I don't mind how long I have to wait as long as I get product at the end of the day. I wish AGM the best of success, sadly is comments on drake 2 don't :/.

This is the type of update that Benji should have made months ago. It's setting him on the right track and now if he can keep with frequent updates (even once a month for now) he'll go a long way in building back up some trust--even with the KS2 people.

Sadly I think that boat has sailed
