what about Drizzt from baulders gate 2

Im not running this thing, but it would seem to me that any character based on an explicitly D&D-licensed game would be counter to the purpose of the contest. Part of the idea, as I understand it (and RPG will probably correct me on this) is to creatively present a miniature as someone they are not. There were loads of great examples of this in the superhero contest. Both Storms come immediately to mind. To simply paint a miniature of a character who has a bunch of his own miniatures would seem to fly in the face of the spirit of the thing. Really don't want to step on any toes of course though, and it's probably not my place to say.

I'm sorry but D&D characters don't count towards the theme, you will still get some points , but the idea behind the theme was to paint a miniature to look like a character that it is not.

The theme is to make it look like a video game character, but it's kind of pointless to do characters from D&D games since they already have figures to represent them.

So, if there were an actual Link mini, that would be disqualified ?

not so much, It sounds like its an issue because they already made mini's of him before the video games, link not so much you have to get slightly creative to do a link mini which seems to be the point.

Drizzt in particular was brought up earlier in the thread. My only real comment is that perhaps the spirit of the contest should be stated in the main post and/or rules (e.g. "These contests are designed to get our painters thinking out of the box, using figures in new and unusual ways.", and also it may be on the rules site, I'm just train-of-thoughting here, and didn't go look). It may only need to be added to the "Theme" rule entry, since one can still enter and get points, just not thematic points.

I like Baugi's response to the original question of Drizzt.

I wasnt trying to start a debate I am the one who asked about drizzt and the one who painted him so I figured I wouldn't get full points but I had already started and I liked my idea for a scene so I finished it I didn't use a drizzt model published as drizzt though I have three on my desk that being said I agree that if the reason I don't get full points is because I used a model that was specifically designed to look like a video game character than that should apply to all entries or its not fair I am not asking for the points on mine I'm cool with it that's

why I entered another model

I must agree. If Drizzt is not acceptable, then it would not be fair for my Gauntlet: Dark Legacy Valkyrie to be accepted, since it is the actual mini for the character.

I'll have to look into something else

That's a pretty convincing Kain! Nice work on the conversion man, that took some dedication. I am HOPING that my Cid Pollendina (FFIV Cid) will be done in time... The mini I'm using has the SMALLEST FREAKING EYES, and I've painted them like 9 times now not yet to my satisfaction.

Normally it wouldn't be a problem, because Cid is usually pictured with goggles.. but the goggles on the mini are pushed back on his forehead. So they're THERE, they're just positioned differently... so I get to deal with the beadiest goddamn eyes ever sculpted.
