that's pretty much my thought on things. I fear Harmony Gold's demands on accuracy in the figures and some mucking up like the Tomahawk missile doors, are going to kill the game, however I thought the same about some of Games Workshop's stuff, and WH40K is still big big business, so we will have to see.

My wave one stuff just came in yesterday, and I see a lot of the issues you are describing. I wonder if a lot of the parts problems are probably related to their long running production woes: The Palladium folks are inexperienced with plastic miniatures, and, even with Ninja Division's help may have had some trouble translating everything into moldable designs that would also be easily assembled.

So far, the stuff I have looked at seems to match the original Macross art, which is what I would expect.

Based on your scale photos, I'm kind of wondering if the armored valkyries will randomly stumble into the perfect scale for classic crusader battlemechs.

Here is a pic of some scale shots with Btech. I find the legs on the Destroids too short  and lacking clear delineation between the upper and lower legs, which make modding them a bear.

The stumpy legs seem to match the Macross art to me. Some of the Destroids had kind of odd proportioning. You're probably right about the modding issues.

I'm worried a lot of potential players are going to buy the game, put together a few of the overly complex miniatures, and then throw the game in their closet and never play it.  ::(:

I'm as much of a modeler/painter as I am a gamer, and I'm still not looking forward to assembling all those figures.

Yeah - I can see that happening. I believe it is geared to having many units even for a small game? Plus every Valkyrie is three models to build just to represent one unit in play - so a unit of four becomes twelve models to assemble - thats a lot of parts to glue together given how they did the breakdown on those....

Still I am anxious to get my kickstarter and see for myself how difficult or time consuming it will be to put them together.

For what it's worth Sarge, the Regult is probably the easiest. Haven't built them all yet, but the Tomahawks and Defenders go together pretty easy, as does the Veritech fighter mode.

The Guardian mode and the Recon Pod are on the hard end of the scales, and will likely make you very unhappy.

Most of them do look pretty decent once you get them together though!

I spent the weekend assembling a whole bunch of minis from my box: 3-mode Valkyrie, Scout Regult, Glaug, Spartan, and Artillery Regult.

My experience so far:

The fit on the parts was all pretty good, except for the vertical antenna bit that attaches to the body of the scout Regult. I had to give up on that and resort to putty and glue to make something close. I also accidentally snapped the tiny blade-shaped antenna that sticks to the left side of its body.

The other thing that was really hard, was figuring out how to match up the upper arm, lower arm and gun sections on the UEDF mecha. There are several options, but they don't all go together, and it wasn't obvious (to me) which was which.

To go beyond "table-top" quality, I see a lot of seams that could really use filling and sanding along split legs and torsos. I'll get around to it as I paint things, but they still look pretty good.

Assembling a whole army of UEDF troops seems like it would be a major undertaking to me.

Of course, iIt'd look really cool when done.

The basic Earth force is four Valkyries, which means 12 models to cover the three different modes of the transformable fighters.   The basic Zentradi force is nine Regults, led by a Glaug, so that's another 10 miniatures.  This will form a small but balanced scenario but I see 2-3 squads of Valkyries plus a squad or two of Destroids versus 2-3 squads of Regults/Glaugs supported by a couple of Artillery, Infantry or Battlesuit squads as being closer to a standard game size.  So, that would work out to around 40-50 miniatures per side.

An armored Valkyrie will require four different miniatures for one unit on the battlefield. I *think* that's the highest multiple in the game.

Is this because the armor can be jettisoned?  So one armored battloid and then one of each mode sans armor?

If so, the Super should come in as the highest multiple with 6 - having jettisonable armor* and transformation modes within both states.

*Shown when Rick flies to Alaska Base after Dolza's bombardment.
