Okay, finally got a mini I wouldn't be ashamed to bring to the gaming table.

I still have a ways to go, but I think I'm definitely on the right track.

I really like the color pattern of the sleeve detail as well as the crystal in his staff and orb in his hand. All of them just pop out and look very cool!

I think one thing I would do is take that pseudodragon on his shoulder and bring up the highlights using a very brilliant red, or even a red/orange blend. Maybe give the same treatment to dragon on his cloak.

You're definitely on the right track, your brush control is there, now it's just a matter of picking out techniques you want to learn and learning! That's about how I'm doing it. Anyway, I really love how boldly you colored him and love the sculpt altogether. I think he's going to serve you well on the tabletop ::D:

I like what you've done with the red orb. You took the standard gem formula (black on top, color on bottom) and gave it a really cool tweak. When I saw it I thought, "I don't know what that is... but it looks dangerous!"

Oh.

Um. We'll just pretend that it was on purpose, instead of me not realizing that's how you're supposed to paint gems.

Yes, that's exactly what happened.

Actually, with a gem sitting freely out like that, it does change things a bit, because the light can filter down towards the bottom, but it's resting on his palm, while the top is exposed to tons of light. The top would then, naturally, have a strong sheen to it while the bottom would be quite richly colored around the palm of his hand. So a bit of a darker undertone near the top with a decently sized white specular reflection on top, then darken the red around his hand even more (at least, that is how I think it would be done. I'm no expert). As it is right now, it looks like it's giving off some powerful inner light which is kind of awesome ::D:

I decided that his integrated base was pretty boring, and I was eager to try out some basing materials. Haven't really done much with 'em since the bones ogre.

Built it up with dirt foundation, added some meadow flocking and some static grass. I'm thinking about uploading him to the inspiration gallery.

This is one I've had "in progress" for ages. I finally mustered the courage to tackle all the eyes and then had fun with drool!

Just thought i would put these up to show off the new party making their way through saltmarsh.  A party of six graduates from the civilized lands, roped into fulfilling a debt by their mentors.  At least they are working together...  they arent my finest work but for 6 hours of painting, they will do nicely for our little gaming group and the group enjoyed the surprise of coming to their second session to discover they all had custom painted minis!

      we have a Halfling fighter
an elven thief with a fixation for daggers
      a halfling bard
the blue dragonborn priest of Protos
the black Dragonborn warlock (had to create the head.  I couldnt find a dragonborn mini with an 8 strength...)
and a Human ranger from the backstreets and slums

hope you enjoy them, i dont know how long they will last....

Got this one done at a painting day in about 3 hours of work, but interrupted by cups of tea. :)

I recently finished Anirion! It was time to add layering to my toolbox of techniques and he seems to be the go-to model for learning.

Since by I now have (just) over 10 minis under my belt, I'm obviously an expert  so I felt confident enough to go with my own colors rather than the ones in the instructions (from Layer-Up kit). Still, even with my "vast experience", I've only painted beasts and monsters so far -- no fancy clothing on any of them -- so I was a bit nervous about messing up my first hero, but you gotta start somewhere.

I think he turned out great, but it went nothing like the videos one might find... And by that I mean it took me several painting sessions over a few weeks to finish him.

Presenting Mary Jo, a member of the River Widows faction from Reapers Dreadmere setting.

Had a lot of fun painting this one, and as a bonus she turned out pretty decent too!

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
