It's great! I love the deep red for the octohead.

Me, too. I didn't want to highlight out of that color. I was going to layer in some purples on the tentacles, but it was so dark it wasn't showing and I didn't know a good way to highlight that and not have it move into pastel like the gem did. I started some greens and blues into the shadows but it was taking a while and I just called it.

I think it's good you did. You have a really gorgeous color there!

The robes, skin and staff haft are all great, you've really gotten that gold NMM down pat.

 

I think you need to re-examine the crystal however, it's well below the rest of the model. The key to crystals is they have inverted light. Their darkest points are at the top and their lightest points are at the bottom. In rounded crystals a single light glint of pure white appears in the darkest area, in faceted crystals like this one bring the darkest area up to the edge of the facets at the top and the. Run your glint in a thin line along those edges (or some of them), don't put a dot in like you would for a rounded gem.

 

Of course once you have mastered gems you need to start giving me advice...
