Slug Eat Your Face (Thunderbolt Mountain)

Tom Meier, legendary founder of Ral Partha and currently running Thunderbolt Mountain Miniatures, does not just sculpt exquisite elves and stunning French and Indian War minis.

 

Oh, no.

 

He has a collection, called "Savage and Sparkle," of extremely eccentric little things which seem to have been designed by a couple of young relatives of his.

 

One such is "Slug Eat Your Face."

 

 

He is a little over an inch tall. I'm afraid I painted him faster than I would have liked, to be ready for a game with our children. I also did not give him a matte finish, as I felt the shiny look conveyed slime better.

ewww! Does the miniature have that stippled texture on the back? It really comes though as slug skin in that blue/purple area. Beautiful! I like the freehand!

I've known about "Slug Eat Your Face" and the original "Ballerina Fairy Princess on Flying Pink Pony Unicorn with Rainbow Laser" for a while, but the "Giant Saber-Toothed Flying Mole with Gills" and the unit of "Ballerina Fairy Princess Infantry" (all officers, of course) were new to me.

 

 

I've liked Tom Meier's work since he was sculpting for Ral Partha (I have many of his Landsknechts, for instance), but his Thunderbolt Mountain stuff is exceptional. And his work for his kids is ... remarkable.

I'm thinking we need someone to make up some Warlord unit stats for these. I would absolutely field an army of these against anyone, and CRUSH THEIR FACE with glittery sparkles. True story.

This is one mini that really does not need a matte finish, ever. Only suggestion I would make is photograph him next to a salt shaker for added effect.

I quite like the gloss, and I agree: The body really does a good job of capturing the look / texture of a slug.
