02924 Bertok, Barbarian (L2PK4)

Recommended Posts

Finished up the first half of Learn to Paint Kit 4, and gotten him based.

I used a stick and some Army Painter wasteland tufts to liven up the base. Dunno about the tufts on the stick. Thinking that might have been a mistake. The axe came out better than I'd hoped. It's probably my best metallic weapon thus far. My attempted highlight on his eye patch came out... less awesomely.

I still don't know what's going on with his obliques. I just... I don't think muscles are supposed to do that. He should really see a cleric about that.

Here you can get a better look at his oddly snobbish expression. "Oh, please, Ungor. Don't tell me you brought a mace to a pillaging. Those are so last year."

"You have to accessorize, of course. I wouldn't be caught dead without my leather bag and rope. And how do you like my dagger? I think it goes smashingly with the axe, don't you?"

I like the plant, it reminds me of these;

hey, I know them. They leave close to me; look odd at the first sight, but they are nice folks

Presenting the Rotten Mummy, as the name suggests he's a Mummy that's going rotten, and he's part of the Egyptian faction for the game Twisted by Demented Games.

It's a really fun to paint mini that is annoying hard to photograph, but I think I did a decent job on him.

As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

This is one of the giants that I've painted that I'm the most proud of!

      Hi folks,

My very first snow base! I haven't attempted Non-Metallic Metal on a shield like this before and I'm happy with how it's turned out :)

      Thanks,
      Mocha

I got this mini in the Mini Painting 101 class at ReaperCon.  This was our first ReaperCon - my wife and I took the class together.  I’d painted about a dozen minis (badly) for D&D before going to RC.

I like this sculpt, and I wanted to work on improving my basic painting skills.  I decided to keep working on her to see how far I can go.

I’ve spent an embarrassingly large amount of time on her already.  I do feel like I’m learning a lot though and getting better at controlling my brush and getting paint consistency right.

I broke out one of the good brushes I had bought and not touched - a da Vinci Maestro.  I still feel unworthy to use it but maybe it will help me get better.

I’ve done a lot of work on the red armor already, but still need to do some more highlighting.  I think I might have overdone the highlights on the green ropes in some places.  I was planning to glaze them down and redo a bit smaller.

Thanks for taking a look.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback or tips on what I can improve on the parts I’ve worked on already.

Here she is so far - she looks a lot better if you squint.

Hi all.  I may have finished this guy in record time.  I am trying this new thing where when I want to stop and get up from my desk... I don't .  This is a bugbear that I just primed with a couple others even though I didn't really have any strong feelings about him.  But as I started working on him I started to get more excited, which is something that's been happening to me more now.  I just start a mini to get more stuff painted and end up liking the job.  I have started to put more effort into highlighting because I got a nudge here on the forums and I am so glad I did.  I really like the work I did on his armour, bringing the scales up to a brighter orange and ticking the edges with silver to make it look like the orange was paint wearing off.  In person he really glitters with that silver, something that didn't quite come across in the picture.  I like the highlighting I did with his skin and loincloth and also the silver rivets on the arm and shin guards.  I hope you all like him too!
