If making sure the ice bath is cold enough helps keep the 'fix' - a tip would be to add a bunch of table salt to your ice/water cup and then put in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before you start the process. The salt in the water lowers the freezing point and you should get a much colder shock to set the bones in.

If you want it colder still, mix the salt in right as you're dropping the figure in. The heat of fusion of water ice is high enough that melting it will pull energy from anything warm quite quickly. (That's why you use salt and ice to make ice cream, btw.)
