Thank you.

Sadly, the shelves were a parting gift from the outlet store here in Waterloo, NY when it closed in May 2012. My buddy was the manager there for nearly 20 years and I've helped him out as a holiday associate for many of them. Hence the B&D drill, etc. You basically work for free to get your tool fix.

Maglok, I too had dreamed of a day when I'd have a proper basement. A few more inches above my head would be nice but this works nicely.

Redambrosia, I was considering painting the pegboard. Still can at any time. I even have a can of purple. It's reserved for the 2 extra player sets for Catan I am going to paint; Purple and Yellow. For when 6 players aren't enough. :poke: And I have a day to play one game. I was thinking orange though, to go with the dark cork. For now, we stand pat at off white.

Looking forward to getting home today and playing with the layout of the pegs, etc. Might have to stop at Wally-world and see what other pegboard options I can find.

And it's time to return to considering how to use filing cabinet drawers to their fullest potential. Kay or anyone else who has a passion for organization, got any epiphanies to share for using the large drawers for storing stuff? I fear that it'll just be a series of plastic boxes stored on their side. I was trying to find more interesting inserts, etc. that could make better use of the space. I'm open to any suggestions. Even things involving cutting holes in them to run cables or similar treatments.

I think using the file cabinets depends on what you have and how you'd like to store it. Once that part is figured out then you can/we can figure out how to make the file cabinet work.

My initial thought would be to store minis in there. Either in Plano boxes or mini cases. You could stand them on their hinge side and then label the up side so you know what's in them.

Books (like D&D type) & magazines can be stored in them in file folders for easy access to look at the pictures for inspiration.

You could also store files in them....

So, what do you still need to find a home for??

Clay and sculpting tools.

Basing materials.

Gods, what haven't I got to store away. LOL

Gonna head down there shortly and work on it.

I have filing cabinets full of game related material already. I am thinking of trying out the Neat scanner to make it all digital.

I was just looking more for alternative uses for the drawers. I've considered the Plano boxes as well as figure storage and such.

As a gamer, I tend to drag many of my figures to games even if they aren't painted so I don't generally store them away. Certainly there's a few I might be working on or have ideas for that might reside on the desk.

Things to consider. All things to consider.

Boxes like THIS filled with your minis, put in on their hinges could be organized by type, game, whatever works for you, and then just grabbed on your way out to game, or pulled out to paint, etc.

I keep my basing stuff, grasses, etc. in Really Useful Boxes. Easy to see through and sturdy for getting knocked around. You could have a drawer for just basing stuff all organized in their own containers.

The INSANITY ... well, a little bit.

I went through my various bits and pieces of stuff I have for storing stuff. And while there are still tons of Amazon shipping boxes and cheap plastic tubs, there are some interesting items to consider for my bench.

So I took pictures of some and started to writing out ideas, etc. for myself. Then I thought to myself, "T, you should share these random bits of chaos." I'd never call myself, "Self." That's silly.

So I give you my new Springpad.com Notebook:

"Building a Better :: Miniature Crafting Station?"

Kind of a bit blog about various things that run through my head while patiently waiting for my Bones to arrive and to satisfy any OCD I might suffer from. Feel free to comment on the springs / articles. Or back on here.

More to come.

This is an excellent topic. I look forward to checking out your springpad notebook when I'm home (silly web filters...).

I'm in the process of getting my workspace in the basement organized as well, although time and motivation have been lacking lately.

Did you mount your pegboard right to the concrete? Any issues?

Thanks. Yes, I mounted them directly to the concrete.

Aside from not being able to find my hammer drill (still in storage most likely) and replacing my mortar bits (prolly with the hammer drill) they went in easily enough.

I had to drill a second hole (in another peg location) for one of the boards because the drill slid a bit up when I drilled at the mark. But I used a putty to close the hole. The provided anchors work well in the concrete and are mentioned in the instructions when putting on a concrete wall. On the second panel, I pre-drilled a small hole (half size bit) through the panel's holes instead of marking them. No slippage the second time.

More to come. Been working a lot this week. Salaried = get the job done. Also means I can take off early, etc.
