naponatom
Doesn't have to be, they can send a receipt for $100 rather than the retail price. A receipt would be for the pledge amount which they paid, not the retail price. As it's 4 Vampire, 3 cases and multiple add-ons it would still be a lot more than $100. Well, The receipt for US$100,00 won´t get through the customs without raising some eyebrows, and the receipt for U$ 1,407.00 (witch is the real amount that we paid) won´t get through the customs without us paying another US$ 850.00 importation fees... I foresee some troubled nights of sleep in anticipation of what will came of this. Wow, that's a pretty crazy amount (pledge and import fees!). Hopefully the package get's through customs fine, but I'm curious where are you based in again? That seems like a HUGE amount for import fee's, is it very common you have to pay them? So, bear in mind we are 4 gamers, so it is almost US$ 400.00 per person (one of the guys just ask the add-ons) and we live in Brazil that have a importation fee of 60% for non-specific merchandise. Normally, for a small buy, under US$50.00 and declared as "gift", there is no trouble (except the amount of time to clear customs that can be as long as 90 days), but I can predict that our pledge will be the size of 15 shoe boxes, and declared as 100 bucks. I know of several friends that bought expensive GW miniatures and had to pay the fee for them. It is not always but regular enough to have me worried. Brazil is a vary patrone (is this a valid word?) country, extremely protective against importation, and foreign industries. And we pay a lot of expensive fees (our taxes are 36,2% of our Gross Domestic Product), and recently with the web shopping, the amount of people that buys from other countries increased (so much that the government had to ban cellphones that we don´t sell in stores here - to protect us from Chinese products - instead of try to grow our own industries.) It's funny, I don't think there is an exact equivalent in English, but I understood from the context what the word meant. I think every country has some level of this, with tariffs and import duties designed to protect domestic business. I just think they are usually not so obvious as those things are hidden from consumers and already worked into prices. Brazil does seem to be particularly harsh though, you have my sympathy. Actually, now that I think about it protectionist is probably the right word: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/protectionist

DLMyst
Is there anyone else here that paints but doesn't use minis for gaming purposes? And sometimes wonders why the hell they bought such a large order of minis? Literally, at the rate that I paint, I will NEVER need to buy another one in my life. Sure, I collect minis, but it bugs me to keep them unpainted. I'm just a sucker for good deals! I love the idea of getting such a huge chunk, but I just can't allow myself to accept the fact that I may not paint them all. I know I'll keep buying minis and my Vampire box will keep getting burried deeper and deeper in newer minis. So more to the point: I love the deal I got, but realistically I might have been happier spending $100 on just the ones I really wanted. (mostly monsters and evil guys)
Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted May 11, 2013 Moderator Share Posted May 11, 2013 I continue to buy, and occasional paint, mini's with the firm belief/expectation/faint hope that one day I will once again find a group to game with.

(mostly monsters and evil guys) You can always trade or sell the extras. Personally, I'm planing to throw one or more "painting parties" in which I convince my friends to each chip in a few bucks, and in return I supply brushes, paint, snacks, and their choice of one of my unwanted minis to paint and take home. ShadowRaven
I paint with the hope of using them in games, but I seem to paint a whole lot more than I game. Come to think of it, I have not had a gaming session in over a month, But I've painted a goodly number of minis, some of which actually made it to the forums, in that time
kay13
I game... and occasionally paint. I look at this as getting lots of monsters and a good stock to search for PC out of.... I also paint what interests me... so I should be set for a while. Shockingly enough this will actually put some human males into my collection for those times my friends are searching for male pc characters... my own collection in metal is 99.5% female (nicely covered) with a couple of token males thrown in... plus stonehavens male dwarfs.. Forget about getting tobacco or alcohol without hurting your wallet. I feel with you. Patron country is a good word! I can truly imagine the country as a too protective parent! xD (The most annoying thing with Norway is that this is tiered. Up to 34~ dollars in actual product value - nothing. Over 34 dollars - VAT on both shipping and product, AND an extra handling fee. At about 170 dollars the handling fee increases. It is sort of annoying, yet gives international shopping an extra aritmetical aspect. Also makes sure that I can buy small reaper orders with shipping with about the same cost as larger ones).
JeffStray
Is there anyone else here that paints but doesn't use minis for gaming purposes? And sometimes wonders why the hell they bought such a large order of minis? I've played one game of D&D in my life, and that was about 15 years ago. Our party ended up cornered, and I decided to unceremoniously exit the game by walking up to whatever giant monster was blocking our progress and...er...making love to it. I wasn't invited back, and haven't tried to get in on another game since. Some of my friends have suggested on numerous occasions that I would be into painting the minis (some with the intent on turning me into a gamer, the fools), but I never bit due to cost. The KS came up, and I figured that the Vampire pledge and some paints would be a good excuse to give it a shot without committing more money than I was comfortable with. Then my Collector Nerd instincts reared up and I pledged for one of every mini offered, plus all the paints and a couple of cases. Then I bought all of the first 15 that weren't duplicated in the KS. Then I bought the 5 L2PKs. Next I'll pick up whatever other Bones are already available for purchase. Stupid Collector Nerd instincts.
araziel
Stupid Collector Nerd instincts. You're not alone in that. I've also bought at least one of every other Bones released before the KS. Which unfortunately means I'll probably have to buy every single Bones mini that will be released. Just so I have them all (... Pokemoooon!)
