Tallghost
Using the instructions found in the threads here, I made my own light box with Parchment Paper, a small storage crate (6x8) from the dollar store, and some white pray paint. TA DAAAA: IMG_4204 by tallghost, on Flickr (try not to judge based on the messy condition of my workspace.) I put up my first picture using the box here: http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/49187-first-bones-long-overdue-dwarf/ The backdrop is a piece of cardboard backing from a dress shirt. in the future I'm thinking about building in a permanent wall/floor with Hirst Blocks
cmorse
To deal with the shine on the dwarf the best thing you can do is take your photos before using any varnish.
CashWiley
Stick to using the same temperature bulb in all your lights. The cool white frontal bulb (the one that's causing the shine) is out of place. It looks like the cool bulb is also not filtered enough. Since you seem to have some gloss from your varnish, maybe another layer of parchment to tone down the hotspots. The lights should sit to the front of the mini. I try to get them at a 45º angle pointing back at the mini (but still filtered through the box sides). Doug will have to tell you the camera mumbo jumbo to get your entire mini in focus. Something about a deeper focal plane or whatnot.
Doug Sundseth
Smaller aperture (larger f/stop number) = deeper depth of field. Do that. Mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo. (I wasn't sure I had used enough words. ) ps. Where did you get the pray* paint? I have some minis I could definitely use that on. * I know, typo. But I like it.
