played around for about an hour after work, added some black lining, cleaned up the bone work and added some more sapphire blue on the left side of the neck, Be warned these large mini's Eat paint...

I'm still working on the color for the throat plates / wing membranes, If you get in and look at the wounds you notice there's two layers. the deeper layer looks is muscle and the upper layer looks to be skin/fat, as you can see in this first pic I'm going over the upper layer in fresh blood as compared to the carnage red for the muscles, also using it for the gore/tendons on what's left of the crest.

So I settled on 2 drops of led blue to one drop of sapphire blue with a drop of water for the wings and the neck plates, I used this for a wash on the wings just to get some color on them.

also the more I base coat the more I notice the wounds bones and gashes in the scales.

partially painting related.

Took some time Friday to go to the range and I discovered the source of much frustration, the scuffed up spring with two metal plungers was Very worn out I got my replacement parts Tuesday and my little friend is operating at 100% again (I told you guys I have too many hobbies & amateur gunsmithing is one.) I was rather happy with this photo, I was digging around in my auto backup from my phone and found this and just felt like sharing.

Now here's the part you guys will be interested in I got my first request from outside my group for a painted miniature, one of the ladies in the other gaming group at the friendly local gaming store bought a bones mini and was asking the employees about getting it painted and the manager pointed to me. I'm going to take a little break from maul as I said I would have this one finished by next Wednesday.

she wanted red hair and just a plain Jane paint job.

Nice Rock Island. Pretty sure that's the same model of 1911 I have. I've been very pleased with it to date, and the only modification I made was to replace the horribadawful factory whateverwood grips with some walnut double diamond.

I picked mine up used so I have had a few hiccups along the way, worn out 6lb recoil spring was replaced with a 16lb wilson combat spring and a wilson combat full length guide rod and a plastic recoil buffer and it came with molded plastic grips, after seeing how worn out that plunger was my next plan is to buy a complete set of springs and a set of pins and replace all the springs on it.

the upside is with the spring rod and buffer the 45. ACP Feels comparable to firing a 9mm recoil is non existent Imo..

also rock island on facebook has been VERY helpful when it came to figuring out my issues with this piece.

so I did a quick and dirty paint job last night after work so I could seal it and let it set overnight so It would be ready to use today.

My standard practice at this point is to seal with reaper brush on sealer then coat with three to four passes of testor's dull coat, and for good measure I threw it on the gaming table this afternoon from about 10 feet away, I LOVE being able to abuse my mini's

excuse the blurriness my leg was shaking and it was throwing off my pictures, I guess I've been sitting in one place for too long.

after looking at it I realize that red on the base of the wing "arm" should be blue, will correct that later.

I have seen some VERY impressive paint jobs of maul so far and I have One complaint, it seems like by and far they all have the color of the dragon change after it's dead to an almost dark brown, Imo to me the color wouldn't change as the scales wouldn't change color just because the body isn't pumping blood to them. just a thought to my painting scheme.

scaled areas get a treatment of sapphire blue while webbing and loose skin are getting a coat of the sapphire/led wash.

when I say finished I normally don't care about the base, when I stop feeling lazy I'll finish the base and break out the camera to get some high rez pic's in the lightbox.

there's a Decent amount of shading on the bones that isn't coming through in this light btw.
