Ral Partha Frost Giant

So here's a Ral Partha frost giant miniature, nice old iconic figure from the end of the seventies. I really like the way he came out, even though with the lighting on the photo, a bit of the deeper colors are kind of lost. One thing I did with this figure that I wasn't expecting was in a lot of the shading ended up using the dark elf skin triad, which gave it even more depth (which once again in the picture isn't sadly too obvious). Being he was a frost giant, I wanted that dead white skin, which is a lot lighter than a previous version I'd done some years before: http://www.miniatures-workshop.com/lostminiswiki/index.php?title=Image:Es57.jpg I was tempted to paint his hair "blond" as per the Monster Manual but kept with a very white and blue theme. His actual hair started out as pure white and his skin as leather white with lots of washes of different blues, grays and dark elf skin colors.

 

Anyhow, enjoying a nice, old classic figure.

Your earlier version is very nicely done, but yeah, I think I like this one more. He feels very much like a "real" interpretation of the concept. Beautiful blending.

I love to see an alternate to accepted dogma with respect to paint color schemes, skin tones, etc. This is very well painted and you should be very pleased. His skin tone, and beard really make me think of Saruman from LotR.

There's something about these tall thin bearded Parthas that I really love... there was another posted not long ago. Very cool sculpts.

I think with this one, it has a lot to do with the sense of movement the figure portrays in addition to its simplicity.

Wow! Great job on a classic miniature, I think that you really did this justice. I also really love this sculpt, that senes of movement in the sculpt is really great and you did a fantastic job painting it to make it look like it's in stride.

Nice, very nice, but I will admit when I saw the title I was kinda hoping to see the later TSR Sandra Garrity sculpt.

I love the skin on this guy. Really nicely done.

 

Ultimately, I don't know if I agree with the color of the skin; I'd rather see a little more bluish side to it, but it really is nicely painted. Also love the belt gems.

What an attractive scupt, huh? His face shows so much wisdom. Great job man, he looks fantastic! I glad you went with the "very white and blue theme" instead of the "blond" it gives it a more believable/fantastical look. Thanks for sharing your work.
