klarg1
I'll second the question about the paint contest: I've never tried to entry the Gencon paint contest, and know next to nothing about how it works. This year has been my first year to enter any formal convention painting contests at all. (TotalCon and ReaperCon) On the flip side, I actually managed to pre-register for two classes Friday morning, including "Hair with Sue", so I'll certainly be around the painting area then
paintminion
The painting competition entries must be in by 9pm Friday, we start judging then so there are no exceptions. There are Gen Con Awards for the different categories as well as random prizes, and Manufacturer Awards. Follow those links to get to the exact rules. The entries are all displayed in lit glass cabinets in the Serpentine 2nd floor lobby area - Home Base for most things minipainting - and can be viewed 24/7 except Friday after 9pm during judging when we secure the area and go to it. If you have questions that are not answered by the links, just ask. I no longer run the competition, but I am judging as usual and will be hanging around the area. Kultus
So, as I'm new to the whole Miniatures world, and I've never looked at any of the MHE or NHM events at GenCon, I have a question or two: How do the Paint and Takes work? I can't seem to find anything in the event registration Do the Paint and Takes have any cost to them?
vutpakdi
The Paint and Take has no cost or ticket associated with them (except for the VIG Paint and Take, which is run by someone else). To participate, you just go to the Paint and Take area and put your name on the waiting list. I would highly recommend that you get there just before 10 AM (or so). Waits can be 1-2 hours in the afternoon. Ron
Kultus
Thanks! Oh, and where is the Paint and Take area this year?
paintminion
All MHE stuff is based around the Serpentine Lobby 2nd floor. You can't miss us. As Ron said, Paint & Take is free, and is first come, first served. Your name gets put on the waiting list and names are called out when the next seat becomes available. You can then choose a prepared miniature and go sit down and paint as long as you would like (no, you cannot choose a second mini and keep painting - new mini, new seat), and people behind the tables can help you learn some basics, chit chat, and discuss mini painting subjects. You can come back as often as you'd like. There is also a family table when you have little ones that want to paint, but then, you, the parent/guardian are responsible for helping the child, there is no staff there. Any further questions? Just ask. Lots of us here are volunteers and involved in these events.
klarg1
The Gencon paint'n'take always looks like fun, but my schedule is usually too packed with gaming events to participate. I may try to sneak in this year, but I think my mornings are already just about full.
SaintRigger
I'll be teaching at the P&T table, so if you want to learn anything or have any hobby questions or just want to shoot the breeze and be weird and interesting - stop by and find me.
Hibou
I will be there this year. My only reaper event will be in one of the reaper speed painting contests. I will lose it miserably. Not sure I even finished my mini last year.
Niranth
I'll be there, but have taken this year as non-scheduled. I'll have a handful of generics and will push my comfort zone. It has been too long.
Members SamuraiJack
I wish they had wait lists for the beginner classes. Hate to buy a bunch of Generic tickets and not be able to use them.. Origins doesn't appear to have squat for painting classes.
MonkeySloth
I don't like the generic ticket concept either. I can understand not waiting to have the people running the event worry about money but it's kind of annoying to
Niranth
Nice thing with Gen Con's Generics is they will buy them back. I'll buy a few and replenish them as needed so I do not have a bunch left over. I am surprised to see the beginner classes sold out! SaintRigger
I don't know who is running the Art College/ Miniature Events for Origins this year.
Stormforge
I see that the Gen Con Dealer Room Map is out and no Reaper booth for the 2nd year in a row, very bummed out here? Are they really not putting out a booth?
