So I finally found my HQ copy, and I'm 95% sure this is the first one I painted from it (youthful bravado and such, you always paint the biggest ones first).

Thus I present the very first mini I ever took a brush to. Kinda nostalgic, but also great fun, thanks for making the thread :P

A Bloodthirster, Greater Demon (Daemon?) of Khorne, I think

No doubt inspired by the Bloodthirster, but in MB's HeroQuest this is a gargoyle :P

Well, it's not like the bloodthirster wasn't inspired by earlier art :P

Painted some time in the 80's, back when I was but a lad... No idea who the manufacturer was, not sure on the date, but I know that I used Testor Oil based paints and big old brushes.

 

 

And, here's the repaint that I did as part of a forum project a several years ago...

That HeroQuest mini is the Gargoyle boss model from the original board game. Sadly I haven't had one in ages, nor any of the green skins. You'd be surprised how hard the Fimirs are to find.

The main thing I remember about that boss is that he substituted for any one-off NPC in the game. I believe he was a princess in one of the adventures. Also, you can pull off his head and wings (they're on short posts) and make a flying wing-head.

Haha, funny, I used to do the flying head thing myself. Like old nintendo boss fights. You kill the body and bam, the head comes flying and you have to kill that :P

Also I have two expansions for HQ it seems. Kellar's keep and return of the witch lord. Got plenty of models, including fimirs

 

Maybe somewhat relevant to the thread I found an ancient repaint I did of some kind of toy figure too. I remember I used it to represent the Nurgle Great Unclean One in WHFB later on. Anyone know where it is from?

The first miniature I painted* at Reaper's Paint & Take at PAX East 2012. He sees active use in a PFRPG game, and his sword has been repainted once (it started flaking right around the hilt). While I was there some guy (who apparently knew what he was doing) was helping his friend paint, so I listened in and learned how easy it was to get a decent-looking tabletop mini.

* I slapped some Testor's paint on miniatures about 15 year ago, but I don't count that. This is the first miniature I painted as an adult who was serious about painting miniatures.

That dude is legendary at our table. I can't even begin to tell you how many bladesingers he served as, nor how many villains he proxied for.
