Has Something bad happened to my minis?

Really, anybody who's upset that they planned for the arrival of their Bones and now their plans are shot because of delivery problems knows exactly how Reaper feels about having their plans shot because of delivery problems.

Except none of us have piles of people sending us hate mail over it. So take how you feel, and pretend all the complaints you read are directed at you, personally, and add that on top.

I really hope that all the unreasonable grief and complaints that have been directed at Reaper don't sour them on running future Kickstarters. I know that with the success of the first one, subsequent KS campaigns seemed like a pretty sure thing, but with all of the negativity that surfaced with the subsequent delays I couldn't hold it against them if they decided another KS would be more trouble than it's worth...

Edit: Note that I'm not including the constructive criticism, but rather the negative complaints that have a sense of entitlement or just plain poor understanding of how many pieces are involved in fulfilling the Bones KS.

As a (reasonably efficient) bureaucrat, I cringe when I hear bad stories about various bureaucracies doing things like slowing down Bones shipments, but I have to believe that Canadian Customs is a problem because of bureaucratic inertia rather than anything malicious. Also, I agree that we shouldn't be dogging the Chinese who made our Bones - those guys worked their tails off for us, and I love the idea of a Tsingtao (or few) to toast their efforts when my Bones arrive. Perhaps some Lone Star beer too, in honor of Bryan and all the other exhausted Reaperites.

Wow, Really? Build the houses first? Do those people have to have people to remind them to breath every few minutes?

Well, to them it made sense. They said "we should let this land sell for development, and then we get taxes". And then one of them said: "But won't they need water and sewer?" And somebody said: "Yes, but that costs money we don't have." And then, with all the cleverness of a Pakled, one of them said: "Well why don't we develop the land, get the taxes, and then use the taxes to pay for installing the water and sewer. We are smart."

The others no doubt gaped at the audacity of his cleverness and genius. So basically, my town is run by goblin logic. Incidentally, while they did listen about W&S (because they had no choice) they chose to ignore the Road & Traffic survey. Which is why every road links to the one stretch of four-lane, and why so much as a flat tire backs up traffic for ten miles both ways for hours*. (Also why going to get my mail is full of more peril than an Indiana Jones minecart chase - I risk my life for my Bones packages)

*Once, when the trans canada was blocked by snow and everybody from westward tried to route through the main road here, it was wall to wall cars for days. That was when I was finishing up university exams, and I missed three days worth because I literally couldn't get out of the driveway.

What bothers me is this false dichotomy between optimism and pessimism. The difference used to be the old half-empty/half-full chestnut. But now the pessimist says the glass is bone dry and the optimist apparently thinks the glass is overflowing.

It is entirely possible to criticize certain aspects without criticizing the whole. They did some things right and they made some mistakes. Trying to discuss the difference between those two honestly is not being negative. And trying to say that all they did wrong is that they were too successful is like going on a job interview and saying your greatest weakness is that you work too hard.

Quoted for truth.

This is such a good point. Years ago when I was seeing someone to help me manage my Cyclothymia, she told me to keep track of how often I used extremist language such as 'always' and 'never.' I was surprised to see how often I did it, even though the idea that something 'never' happened and 'always' happened was obviously untrue.

I think one reason it never seemed off to me was because I think all of us hear it quite a lot. 'You never let me do anything I want to do.' 'We always have this for dinner.'

No one at Reaper had any idea what level that the Kickstarter project would hit by the end. I know the Bryan was figuring right around 750,000 and was worried that they wouldn't even hit their break even point (which was higher than the initial goal that was set). I think everyone else but Ron was figuring just over 1,000,000.

While I can't refute your statement of "Bryan says", I would challenge you to show me where he said that. I believe that the statement was that they intended to start shipping in March but I could certainly be wrong. Either way I'm sure that statement was uttered before the non-vampire pledge containers were delayed by China or US Customs. I think its reasonable to conclude that the statement was no longer valid as soon as that occurred. As far as the March delivery is concerned, they did start shipping and the first pledges were, indeed, received in March.

Huh, I remembered it as "Bryan say" to, but It turns out it was Ed says, at least in the obvious spot that I can find on memory alone, I'm fairly sure Bryan gave similar time estimates around that same time period.

"My job is to have everything promised in the KS into everyone's hands during, or before, March 2013."

That was October 1st well after they knew the size of the KS and seems pretty clear and unambiguous. Obviously it was voided once they had shipping and customs delays however they never actually told us until long after the delays started piling up. The didn't void the statement, it voided itself once the time started passing without new updates or buried updates on multiple forums.

Right now I can go to facebook and read

Reaper Miniatures Two more containers arrived a day early today (scheduled for Monday) one more to go, but we can start shipping sometime next week! The final push is about to begin!

Or I can go to the kickstarter updates and read
" "
I'm rather unimpressed with how they managed to not fix their updating problems with the KS page. Updates NEED to be in the KS updates section. Not on the forum here or on facebook. They can be there too, but not exclusively. They've been reminded of these repeatedly, they've said they'd fix the issue, they've managed to be completely inept at something both important and ridiculously simple to achieve.

What I suspect is happening is that someone other than Bryan is making the posts on Facebook without getting clearance to do so.

I'm not seeing that post on Facebook. That last post I see is from May 7th.

I don't understand the point your trying to make. Seems like you are deciding to continue to beat the dead horse. We get that Reaper has had an issue with updating the KS. I'm just saying that I don't believe that Bryan made that post on Facebook.

The point I'm trying to make is that they have a continuing problem with making updates here and on facebook and in the KS comment stream and probably a half dozen other places rather than in the KS update section. Even after they said they'd fix the issue. You said the facebook updates likely without permission so I gave you a link to an example of ReaperBrian once again updating here and leaving the KS in dead silence. I'm assuming he knows about his own post? If its a continuing problem that they claim to have fixed it hardly a dead horse. Would you like more examples? Or is anything remotely negative too much for you?

To answer your question about that specific facebook post its from 3 hours ago. Apparently the updates are so buried you can't find them even if you know where to look....

I don't want to be a sourpuss, but I am a bit miffed about the Reaper kickstarter. I dropped $450 on the KS, and consequently I am apparently going to be one of the very last people to get his stuff. Meanwhile guys who donated a quarter of what I donated already have their toys.

I totally understand why that is, but it still chaps my hide. Especially since I needed some of those minis for a game I ran, and if I'd got my Vampire level when I was supposed to, I would have been set. As it was, I ended up having to buy the metal versions. Which means when I do finally get my bones, it's just going to irritate me again, because there will be about 20 miniatures that I will never, ever need but paid extra for.

I basically don't even care anymore. I've lost all sense of excitement, it's been entirely replaced with frustration and annoyance, and I don't even want the miniatures anymore. Honestly, if I could just have my $450 back, that would make me so happy. As it is, the box will eventually show up and I'll just be mad at it and feel like an idiot for wasting so much money.

Between this and the months of delay on the Red Box Kickstarter, and Indiegogo not successfully completing my donation to Otherworld (which means I missed out on $100+ in savings and some exclusive minis), I'm just sick of this whole thing. I will not be supporting any kickstarters, indiegogos, or other crowdfunding games in the future. Blech.
