How do you update your edition? I seem to have 4th.

Contact the shop where you bought the PDF. Or contact Ganesha (Andrea Sfiligoi) directly. You will need a proof of purchase.

Well I got them direct from Ganesha a couple of years back, and I'm not sure I have proof of purchase per se, but I do still have the email that Andrea sent me with the pdfs. Do you think if I just replied to that I'd be ok?

If you bought direct from ganesha, it is no problem. Contact Andrea Sfiligoi at ganesha.

.

About the updates, here is a quote I took from yahoo, made by Andrea Sfiligoi.

some new special rules have been added, eg Good Aim

some specials from the supplements have been ported into SBH (e.g. Combat

Master, Heavy Armor)

everything has been expanded, examples added in many sections

Free Step rule added

Some optional rules added: Following Up in melee, priority in melee

spells used as ranged attack now are -1 per stick beyond the first, not -2

some profiles added in most rosters

Things you could miss because they are implied but not explicitly explained

in the new edition: ranged attacks on fallen models are lethal, and the bit

about magic ranged attacks

Also due to a layout mistake, minotaurs are missing from Revised but there

is a free PDF for them on www.ganeshagames.net

I am now revising SGD so if you see anything that needs clarifications,

they could go there in a FAQ section

You should really get the new rules.

Personally I still don't like that with 2 or 3 Quality failures the turn goes to the other player. Personally I prefer that only the mini which failed, makes no move.

Well, that mini doesn't necessarily lose its turn; if you rolled three dice and had two failures, that piece still gets its one success. Then your turn ends.

As far as your turn ending, it stinks, but I feel that mechanic really is necessary for the game. Otherwise, high number and low quality armies (zombies, goblins) have a huge advantage as there's no real reason not to throw three dice every time, taking one or two successes as they came, and bogging down the game.

The risk versus reward factor is crucial. Take the chance on more actions, or more powerful actions, or play it safe and make sure all of your pieces go (slower, weaker).

Sure, it can drive me crazy at times, but for us it really adds to the tension of the game and seems to come about about even. (Plus it's pretty hilarious when your opponent gloats because you rolled three 1s and then does the exact same thing!)

Plus, as Andrea often says, it's your game so feel free to modify as you like. :)

The two-faulure turnover rule makes the game far more exciting for the reason cited by others above. I know it can be frustrating when it happens, but it's one of the things that keeps SBH an exciting game; the gods of chance can be fickle!

That is when tactics come in. Take a ratman for example most of them are Q4+. That makes life very difficult, however, if they are within long distance of a leader, and are attempting a group action they will get a +2 on their activation roll. +1 for leader, and +1 for gregarious. That is a huge bonus! Suddenly your ratmen are effectively Q2+.

And in regards to hero vs leader (we were talking about it earlier) heroes are awarded a success on ALL their activation rolls, Activation to move, checks to resist spells, and morale! They are also given the chance to reroll a single die once per game. I'm not saying hero is better than leader, but hero does afford a unit more options than i originally recalled.

Played my first game(s) yesterday! First game was undeads vs. goblinoids + human archer. Both were pretty green, we assumed, mistakenly, that the vampire was a leader, and i had 60pts (out of 300) invested in archers. Clear loss!

Had two more skirmishes, both more balances :)

Do you guys typically use the supplied army lists, or build you own with the formula? I'm thinking about making "data cards" for my painted minis :)

A little of both. I typically use the supplied lists and fit my minis to the examples, but the warband tool is useful sometimes.

EDIT: Data cards sound fun!

Sounds like you had a good time. I usually use the profiles listed in the book. Before I go and make a new one, I flip through all the available profiles and choose one that reflects what I want in a mini. This sounds funny but if you compare the human leader to the ratman leader they are mechanically identical. Q3+, C3 and Leader for 60 pts. So, in conclusion, I don't feel bad for taking my Bronn mini (a human) from Dark Sword and using the Lion-man champion profile for him.

Profile cards sound cool. I know a lot of folks go here: http://www.mtgcardmaker.com/

to make their profile cards.

Lastly, archers can be good. In fact, the last guy who beat me used nothing but archers.
