Hi everyone, Here are the first pictures of a Throne Base I've been working on lately. I wish to use this same base to display different models. So, I'll be casting resin models out of the original model I'm creating.

After the silicon mold is made, I want to cast a copy to use it as a base for my Cinder. Then, I'll cast some more throne base for the Swine Prince, Van Storme the Vampire and so on.

The tiles are one inch wide, to suit regular miniatures bases. So, the top surface of the base will be 3 x 4 inch and about 7/8 inch high. The peice of wood I'm using was not totaly parallel and wide enough. I had to fill one side with Milliput. I screwed a stick on the plank to help fill the gap and hold the putty in place.

I hope you'll enjoy and it will be useful for some of you. I'll be glad to receive your comments and learn your personal tricks on the subject.

Here's two more pictures of the tiles design. I also applied putty on each side of the base except at the center of one side where there'll be some stairs.

I chose to make the sides at an angle, so it will be easier to remove the casted copies from the mold.

That's looking super cool so far! Will you be sculpting/molding the throne to go on top of it, or do you have an already existing piece(s) in mind?

Huzzah!

For now the main goal is to expérience mold making and cast a first copy to use it as a base for the dragon I painted. I also plan to cast more copies to display other models like the 02727 Swine Prince and 02093 Van Storme the Vampire.

It wasn't my intention to sculpt a throne but you aroused my curiosity and I've found Qwyksilver's Throne of Skulls searching the forum. A fabulous throne isn't it?

This is looking really cool. Glad to have you back making something, it seams like you, me, and Adrift cannot currently be working on stuff at the same time as I ran out of juice about a week ago and have been taking a videogame break and I don't think I've seen Adrift post something since Reapercon.

Thanks MonkeySloth, I'm glad you like this project. Life gets in the way! I try to avoid videogames and tv, but I had to refurbish part of the house (renovation never ends) and every day work has drain most of my energy lately. Thinking about Adrift, it must also be hard to find time to paint when one needs to take care of his family. I'm sure, he'll show us some painted bones very soon.

Fortunately for my sanity, I have some quiet weeks coming. So, I have some painting project on the way as well as the Throne Base. Here are some more progress. I added pedestal on each side of the staircase and I've used a waxed paper to trace the tile pattern and get a feel of what it will look like.

awesome! I really love the way you're planning it out, especially to be compatible for gaming. The pedestals are a really nice touch! Will you sculpt fancy tops?

Yes, I'm looking for ideas for the pedestals top. Maybe I will sculpt different ornaments according to the subject displayed and the base. I tought of skull piles and discs containing fire. Do you have other ideas you would like to share? I know you have! ::D:

This is pretty great. I've never done any sculpting or mold making, so I always learn something new when people post projects like these. So, thanks for sharing your work!

Thanks Creeper, I'm happy you like it. I hope it will inspire and motivate you to try or continue. ::):
