Hi members...I have taken a break from working on my farmers market & Renaissance Fair vignette work. As a change of pace, I have been doing research work on what would be common to a (small gypsy camp)...that I am going to build as an off-shoot of my market & fair project...or...as a stand alone separate project. I have listed what I have found to be most common below...Being that it will be a small gypsy camp (I have not decided what all I will incorporate from the below list)... If you have additional ideas and/or suggestions (please reply).

1. Brightly colored tents...

2. Brightly colored wagon(s)...

3. Water or Beer wagon (plain)...

4. Supply wagon (plain)...

5. Gypsy clothing (bright colors)...

6. Rugs & tapestry...

7. Brightly colored incense...

8. Odd & ornate items...

9. Crystal balls...

10. Tarot cards...

11. Gypsy art & paintings (heavy w/nudes)...and...(horses)...

12. Long strand decor items...

13. Fortune teller tent...

14. Tarot card reader tent...

15. Massage and/or pleasure tent...

16. Open fire with meat on spit...

17. Potions, oils, herbs, candles...

I think you have everything down that I can think of. The only suggestion I have is that in almost every old movie and tv show that featured gypsies at some point had a beautiful gypsy girl dancing near the campfire. I've noticed that you seem to have plenty of minis of females of bendable morals so you're probably good there. :;):

And also dogs, to warn the gypsys against intruders.

You mentioned horses, but what about other animals? Goats or cows for milk (and meat), dogs for companionship and/or guard duty, and when someone says Gypsy I think of dancing bears.

An old gypsy trick was (supposedly) to keep one chicken of every color. So if a farmer found stray feathers from a chicken they had stolen and eaten, they could say 'Oh no, those feathers came from that white/brown/red/black chicken!'

I am not sure that the Roma today appreciate the "g" word, or the images that stick to it.

Please understand, I don't mean this as criticism of the camp idea -- it sounds lovely.

But the Roma are suffering under tremendous prejudice and discrimination in Europe, and part of it is the association of those ideas -- which are, to be fair, a fantasy -- with an actual people.

I appreciate the comments from the above group members. It seems that my original outline covered most of the bases.

(Darsc), I like the idea of the dancing girl around the camp fire, but since I do not include figures...that would have to come during game play...but I do like the idea of the dogs (I don't have any...where can I find dog miniatures?)

(Chaoswolf), I mentioned paintings of horses (not actual horses)...I do not intend to expand to the point of having any animals...except for dogs (if I can find them).

(Argentee), As I stated above...I do not intend to include animals (not even chickens).

(Pingo), I appreciate and respect your comments; but I am building a fantasy piece in a fantasy land in a fantasy time. I intend no disrespect to the Roma...but in that time and age, in most fantasy literature... they were called the (Gypsy) and I do artistic fantasy work...not PC correct history work!...But thank you for your comments and I hope that my project and/or my statements here do not offend you.

How about a repair/parts wagon?

MegaMinis makes a number of different dog breeds and other handy animals, in true 25 mil scale. Or they did ~ he's selling off his molds and rights so I'm not sure what is still available.

Reaper has some fierce guard dogs:

and a cute little pug dog:

My favorite dogs are from Thunderbolt Mountain, but they are more elegant wolfhounds than scruffy camp dogs:

and then figure out how to get more horses. Both of those wagons should be at least a two horse rig (or more accurately, the horses should be half again as large) and the beer wagon at least a four horse rig, if not six (and the horses should again be larger to fit scale wise) I'm not smart, but I know horses
