I have over 700 last count, with a few hundred more due in the next while. And that's before I add my planned MSP raid.

I need an intervention.

The difference between a hoarder and a collector is a fine line. As long as everything is neatly stored away you're a collector. if your paint is strewn about with giant spiders and kobolds scurrying about then you have a problem. You see you're a Potter Goblin not a D&D goblin.

Back again.

A few things:

My trial and error process: Since I've painted each pot-bottle's cap with a drop of the paint, I can see what the paint looks like when dry. I held up the cap with the paint-swatch to the printed art, not actually painting the figure and then deciding that I needed to change it. My "paint-pitch" may not be perfect, but I'm familiar enough with the Reaper Master Series range by now that my first guess is pretty close.

Glad to hear that you're comfortable with mixing from your paint selection. Having 15 colors works for some, and having hundreds of bottles works for others.

The Power Palette is an interesting program, but it is giving me bad results on my photos of Merisiel. I can see an obvious color-shift between the overall pic and the zoom-in box showing where my cursor is. The zoom-in box is much more orange/brown, not nearly red/pink enough. The results for her skin were Tanned Skin, with Rosy Highlight and Leather White for highlights, and Earth Brown and Bone Shadow for shadows -- but those are all wrong.

The Power Palette is doing the same thing on the original Wayne Reynolds portrait of Merisiel, as linked by @mikem91 in post #11. The zoom-in box shows the colors as much duller. I see pink, the zoom-in shows gray-brown, and the results are Aged Bone and Earth Brown.

I haven't exhaustively tested the Power Palette to see a pattern of color shift.

It does properly indicate, at least, that I used Ultramarine Highlight on Ezren's blue tabard, and Dark Elf Highlight on Seltyiel's "black" leather.

Actual colors for Merisiel's skin: Porcelain Rose (discontinued? try adding white and red to Rosy Skin 9068); shade with Violet Red (9026) and Blackened Brown (discontinued? edit: 9137, it's a very dark and strong red-purple-brown); highlight by adding Fair Highlight (9048) and Linen White (9061) to the Porcelain Rose.

Kyra's robe: True Blue (9017) and Sky Blue (9018); shade with Ultramarine Blue (9188 -- going toward a cooler indigo-blue) and Deep Amethyst (discont'd? 9265 Deep Twilight seems similar -- a nice indigo); highlight by adding Pure White (9039) and Linen White (9061). The freehand suns are Desert Khaki and Sandy Yellow (both discont'd -- but they're both muted yellows).

Lem's coat: Blackened Brown (again, discontinued edit: 9137) to Mahogany Brown (9070) with Clotted Red (9134) and then some Golden Highlight (9093) and Linen White (9061), then glazes of Clear Red (9094) and Clear Orange (discont'd -- add some Clear Yellow 9095 to the Clear Red) and more highlights with Rosy Skin (9068).

But as with most things in painting, you can get similar results with different colors of paint. These are just what I used.

As for the remark quoted by @SkeletonTodd from my class... not the turn of phrase that I would have used, but amusing nonetheless.

Also... yes. Magic brushes are the secret. :;):

Anyway, back to @unidentifiable's original post/request: Good luck, and please show some photos of your results.

I gave up on the power pallet quite some time ago, it's just to inaccurate as it tries to shift everything to the closet RMS paint color and the end result is more often then not something that's not even close to the original. Eventually it becomes much easier to eye the color yourself once you're comfortable with colors and a basic understanding of color mixing.

Derek,

Blackened Brown still exists in MSP as 9137

Thanks. On the page of MSP paints on my screen, the swatch of Blackened Brown appears much lighter than the real paint, so I glossed over it.

I've edited my previous post.

No problem. The swatch is not correct at all.

As you get more experience the power palette loses its utility but for beginners it can sure get you in the ball park and at the very least thinking about color.
