Wow, your work is so colorful. I love it!

I'm a huge fan of colour. One day I've got to force myself to do something subdued, but not yet. I've got some sci-fi stuff coming from Reaper and I'm going to break all the rules and do a far out, trippy palette on them. I can't wait to paint them up as they're very cute figs.

Very nice Anne. The 'shrooms are adorable. I really like the paint job on the ballast and rocks. I am always amazed hw effective and simple the army painter baing materials work.

I got into the hobby via wargamers and learned to paint by reading their blogs. I'm just now getting out to interact with the Fantasy community and learn how they do things, so most of my basing comes from military and not Fantasy background. Fantasy is expensive though. Military is economical as the armies these guys paint can be as large as 245 figures. And these guys have more than one army. You should see their gaming tables, they're massive.

Well done.

Thank you!

#50150 Betty, Space Heroine

Project #4

Page 1

This is one of the figures for the Pulp Competition that I'm working on. I wanted to get at least one pic up of her early on before I complete her.

She comes with a familiar and I have completed him. They will both go onto a scenic base that I am doing some modifications on. I'll be taking a lot of pictures as I go, but will not post them all until after I have submitted her.

Hah! She looks great...right out of Buck Godot: Zap Gun for Hire!

Really like your work on the pink material; right now it looks like it has the kind of shimmer you expect from spacepulp clothes. Can't wait to see the whole thing.

#50241 Sparg, Illyrian Agent and #50015 Tool Bots

Project #5

Page 1

Provided that I get done in time, these will be my entry for the Team Competition. I couldn't find any examples of Sparg painted, but in a way, that is a good thing. I'm not burdened by someone else interpretation of the sculpt, rather I can paint him as I "feel" him. Thus far, I have only laid down base colours on him.

When I took Sparg out of the package, the first thing I thought of was "Microbiologist". When I used to present papers at The Society For Neuroscience, the Microbiologists were always easy to spot. They'd show up in sandles, bright Hawaiian shirts, shorts and many of them wore dreadlocks. They were a pretty "trippy" bunch. So that is the inspiration for the palette.

Colours used are as follows:

Reaper Fireball Orange

Citadel Edge Lugganath Orange

Citadel Ultramarine Blue

Citadel Warlock Purple

Citadel Edge Gauss Blaster Green

Reaper Khaki Shadow

Vallejo Black

Because I have problems with proper placement of highlights in hair and in the proper placement of the highest highlights over all, I took two pics of him with a single light source directly over his head.

I used this method with Betty, who is almost done, and it worked quite well. Hopefully it will work well with Sparg.

I have begun work on the Tool Bots and they will be tied in with Sparg via the palette. I'll post those when I have them entirely base coated.

Thank you Kris! I've done some major work on Betty-deepened the shading by loads, increased the highlights and put her on a scenic base. She still needs tinkering with, but just small stuff. She'll be up on the blog tomorrow so I can get some critiques. If you get a chance will you stop by?

I'll definitely make sure to stop by tomorrow.

I just photographed her and am not entirely happy with how she's looking. With the scenic base, I'm photographing from farther away than I'm used to and the detail on the face isn't showing up. Also, I'm still not getting enough contrast to make her "pop" against the background. She's giving me fits!

Had a look at Betty on her base Anne and read and made comment. Dont agonise (as if you would) over the brightness er neon-ess of the bio mass it would be pretty easy to tone down with some glazing.

I think, and there are people better placed than me to advise, that to get the effect you are after you could look at starting off your base tones very much darker even the mid tones could do with being fairly subdued, this way when it gets to those neon colours for the highlights they really kick out.

You have to think contrast to get the effect of a semi glowing ooze, small patches of bright/neon will read better if you have greater contrast in both colour tone and brightness. I hope this makes sense if not give me a hoi! and I'll look for some interweb photo's (possbly yootoob) of what I'm talking about.

regards

dave
