His skin turned out very nice, despite the trouble you said you'd had with it. His face in particular looks cool! And wow! His sword turned out fabulously!!!! I'd say that technique is definitely a success!

Her skin is looking amazing, and now that she's closer to being done, her colors feel more balanced somehow. Maybe it's the shading on her skin, I'm not sure, but she's really coming together nicely. :D

Thank you OneBoot. I ended up liking these guys pretty well in the end and I'm now addicted to doing weathered metal. It's so sloppy and fun. Kind of like scribbling outside the lines in a colour book when I was a kid.

PROJECT #8

02434 and 02443

Male and Female Skoli Warriors

Sculptor Sandra Garrity

COMPLETED

They are finally done. After getting these pics done, I realized that I still needed to do more extended shadowing out along the thighs of both figures. Heisler was right! This is a lesson learned and I'll remember it next time. I had to call these done as I have 3 more figures to do for Shogun!

This is the third figure that I'm doing for Shogun and I feel like I'm on solid ground with him. I actually have a plan in advance and know what I'm doing, which is nice for a change.

I'll be doing my first OSL on this figure. He's to have an Ice Sword and I'll be doing a blue glow on the black cape which should be fairly easy (I hope). The skulls will be a flouro green and I hope to do some simple free hand work on that black cape.

No highlights have been applied yet and the metals have only been through their first round of weathering.

Oo nice, I'm looking forward to your OSL!

I've read up on it and I think I understand it. We'll see. I've worked with blue and black quite a bit and know how long it takes to build up the blue from the black and using super-thin layers, I figure 20 to 30 layers out to do it.

Wow the cape looks beautiful

It still needs highlights and I'll bring those up using purple and then into lavender then lavender/white for the highest points. I'm hoping to do some free hand work on the bottom. I could do little gold shamrocks, but that would be cheeky.

A really good start on the cloak in particular. I like where that might go. Free hand work on the bottom was actually the first thing I thought of when I saw it, so I say go for it. :) Maybe more like dwarvish-like runes?

I'm not certain what to paint there, but I know it needs something. He's a bad guy and I wish I could paint tiny skulls, but I'm not that good at free hand. I'll have to cruise the web a bit for ideas.

Project #10

77150: Ragnaros, Evil Warrior

Sculptor: Bobby Jackson

This is a figure is from the box of bones I received from Heisler and he's a real departure for me. Usually I do all bright colours on girly sculpts, but it is time for a change I think. Also, I'd like to make my teacher proud of me.

The metal is done entirely as aged and weathered using a stippling technique. His helmet was inspired by forum member Youwashock, who painted this figure, did a magnificent job and used this glowing green effect.

I shot him from a pretty good distance away to see if I was going to get enough contrast when I base him with another figure. The base is a 40mm and he'll be standing on rocks so he's going to have to really pop to show up in that photo. Clearly I need to deepen the shadows on the bronze plates on his back. I've a little more darkening to do between layers on the silver as well. The red is coming along, but absolutely must come up higher. I not have left enough black space between those scales on his loin cloth and will fix that as well.

I took WIP photo's of the aged metals and will post them later. There's a lot of photo's and a lot of verbiage, so that's going to be seperate.

C&C welcome

I've decided not to post the WIP on building up the metals unless someone requests it. It's a lot of work for me and time is something I have very little of.

I attempted to correct the earlier flaws and I shot him from a greater distance to be absolutely sure he's going to "pop" when I take the shot of him based.

The contrast on the large back plates is better and the only thing I may do it bring up the highest points of the large copper plates. The reds still need to be pushed higher. There's not nearly the contrast I need.

I included a close up to show the weathering work on the bronze.
