Pingo
Some people have more sensitive skin, and different people are susceptible to different things. I wear purple nitrile exam gloves whenever I paint, and usually when I'm handling minis too. Heck, I wear 'em in used bookshops because of dubious old book cover substances and ground-in dust. Long ago I met an artist who had developed an awful skin reaction to paint solvents, and I figured gloves never hurt. As for what the factory used as a release agent, we may never know. Chinese factories, as was brought up in another thread, are not exactly known for being honest or forthright about the chemicals they use.
Baufrin
LOL maybe I develop super Kaladrax powers... due to the nuclear mold release exposure... Buglips... Buglips... Terra Branford
@Baufrin You would have to be bitten by a radioactive/cursed/whatever Kally for that to work. No Spidy powers for you! I wouldn't be surprised in the least if China used something toxic and probably illegal to the US. If it's cheaper, they'll do it. That being said, have you tried checking online for the various mold release agents that can be/are used? If you have a list, you can go down it, checking what reaction they can give from exposure to them. I know it's time-consuming, but if it gets worse, that's one way to help your doctor. I"m sorry if that's not much help, but that's all I can think of. I hope your hands feel better soon!
Baufrin
@Terra Remember Mat Murdock AKA the Dare Devil developed his powers after being exposed to Chemical waste from a car accident. So I could develop super powers.

Heck, I wear 'em in used bookshops because of dubious old book cover substances and ground-in dust. I don't think I could stand that. I have to wear nitrile gloves when I'm showing my hands in some of the production photograps I take, My hands sweat so badly in them that I end up with dishpan hands in less than an hour. LittleBluberry
Thanks for the head's up, my son got a rash from trying on a rubbery mask at a toy store once, so we'd be likely to have problems. Now I know to bathe all my Bones before we sort them.
ShadowRaven
my brother is quite allergic to alot of petroleum based products, including vaseline. Oddly enough, other than a brief stint in the military, he's been working at the same gas station since high school
Foxfire
@Terra Remember Mat Murdock AKA the Dare Devil developed his powers after being exposed to Chemical waste from a car accident. So I could develop super powers. He actually got his super powers from the mutagenic goo that mutated the Turtles from TMNT* - sooooo I still don't like your chances. *Don't believe me? It's true. They ripped off the turtles origin story for Matt Murdock when they were making Daredevil (It's awesome.)
Fletch_Talon
my brother is quite allergic to alot of petroleum based products, including vaseline. Oddly enough, other than a brief stint in the military, he's been working at the same gas station since high school It says a lot about me that I giggled at the awkward ways in which someone could potentially discover they had an allergy to vaseline. I'll go sit in the shame corner now. Also, I'm sorry for your brother's situation, I can imagine it would make life difficult considering how much we rely on petroleum for a variety of things. @Terra Remember Mat Murdock AKA the Dare Devil developed his powers after being exposed to Chemical waste from a car accident. They ripped off the turtles origin story for Matt Murdock when they were making Daredevil (It's awesome.) I'd always thought Daredevil just had the whole super senses and stuff from being blind. Was that just the live action movie or did I just not pay enough attention? Also, weren't the ninja turtles aliens?* *Just kidding please don't hurt me
Unruly
Pretty sure that even the Daredevil live action movie had him getting thrown into some barrels of chemicals or something falling off a truck and into his face*. *Like Alex Mack, except slightly less cool because he couldn't do T-2000 style melting and stuff. Also, I just announced how much of a child of the 90's I am by remembering who Alex Mack was. Edited June 30, 2013 by Unruly

They ripped off the turtles origin story for Matt Murdock when they were making Daredevil (It's awesome.) Actually it was the other way around. The first issue of the original '80s TMNT comic book (on which all later media TMNT stuff was based) ripped off the Daredevil origin story. I shoulda bought that issue when my FLCS owner recommended it, but I thought it was too goofy.
Last Knight
Heeeey... Pingo's right. I haven't read the comic in years, but I remember Splinter mentioning a young man getting hit in the eyes with one of the canisters. I never put two and two together before..
Dai-Mongar
I was going to say, I'm sure Daredevil was around before TMNT.
buglips*the*goblin
LOL maybe I develop super Kaladrax powers... due to the nuclear mold release exposure... Buglips... Buglips... Buglips I summon thee to this thread to create an origin story. Go Go GO! Buglips was on DM duty, terrorizing players with giant spiders. My favourite quotes from the game: "I think sometimes he forgets we're only level one." "You're not allowed to buy miniatures anymore, because you use them. ALL of them." *pfft* They lived. And only two of them were debilitated by poison for a week. If your characters didn't want to be gnawed upon by multiple 4+4 HD giant poison spiders, then they should have chosen an honest profession like blacksmithing or farming. My personal favourite moment was when they got super eager about what treasure they would find, given that the spiders were so tough. Surely a magical sword or something! Ha ha ha, no. You guys didn't have anything like that, and you're the first people who came here and lived. The dead people don't have better stuff than you, or they wouldn't be dead.

Back on topic I have Reallllllly bad allergies, in fact at the worst I look like a leper from coming in contact with tide detergent so the fact that I haven't had Any reaction at all to the bones makes me not worry about them * * I haven't eaten one yet.
