Popular Post klarg1
So... some of the rampant off-topic speculation sparked the idea of painting up Reaper's Universal Scaling Knight [uSK], Garrick the Bold, with a ruler along his sword. The idea stuck with me, so, as I am just about the end of my Dark Sword hawk man project, I thought I'd try to find a few hours this week to paint up my Bones Garrick. At the very least, it should give me a standard to use in my own photos. I started out by cleaning (and straightening) the Bones figure, and giving him a solid coat of black as a kind of primer. Normally, I'd go on to his face, clothing, etc. next, but, this time, I wanted to start right off with the Sword of Measurement. I'm not sure I want to keep the yellow color, but it is certainly eye-catching, and it has some of the "surveying equipment" feel, that I think is appropriate. The markings are placed at 5mm spacings along the blad, starting at the hilt, with 1mm marks at the tip - one must take precision seriously! Next came the armor base coat. Now I just need to pick out a color scheme. Normally, I'd try to match the yellow or something, but this time I'm not sure. Maybe "safety orange"? buglips*the*goblin
Definitely safety orange. With a nice "hardhelmet".
Moderator OneBoot Posted July 2, 2013 Moderator Share Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) I second the orange idea. I've got a Garrick in my shopping cart because this idea appealed to me too! Such a fun idea. :D You could do his shield in yellow or orange and black to look kind of like a safety sign. kristof65
Why do I have this feeling that Garrick the Bold is going to be a Reaper best seller for a long while now?

ShadowRaven
I have him ready to go on my desk at this moment. I even have a nice orange (picked out for the fire guys from the kickstarter, perfect for safety)
Popular Post klarg1
I'm really painting this guy out of my usual order, but it's fun. I got some more done after giving the helmet a few hours to cure: If anybody is wondering how I'm getting this much painting done this week: My employer shut down for the July 4th vacation week, so I am on a week of enforced time off. I'll return to struggling for time on Monday. Why do I have this feeling that Garrick the Bold is going to be a Reaper best seller for a long while now? I don't see a down side. Next order I'm getting in on this project. I didn't label this as a public / group WIP, but I'd love to see other people's take on the concept. Feel free to post here!
klarg1
XD That's hilarious! Too bad you aren't having fun with this or anything. Huzzah! --OneBoot :D I don't about anybody else, but I find that Bones makes me much more relaxed about what I paint and how I paint. I still love metal minis, but Bones really make a difference. Heck, I think I've given away more of the Bones I got at ReaperCon than I've painted. It could be the price point, but I suspect it's actually something in the release agent.

Teskal
The first mark, where does it start? 20, 25mm? It is a really cool idea. I really like the hardhelmet.
klarg1
The first mark, where does it start? 20, 25mm? It is a really cool idea. I really like the hardhelmet. Thanks, I measured from the base of the blade, where it meets the hilt, so the marks on the yellow side are at 5, 10, 15 and 16-18mm. The black side shows imperial measurements at 1/4. 1/2, 9/16, 5/8 and 11/16 inches.
Evilhalfling
That is just awesome. I found that so many bones to paint at once has incited my whimsy as well. Whats one or two strange paint jobs/ concepts when so many are serious figures? I am saving my weirdest to post on July 4th. Popular Post klarg1
Things are getting busy at the end of the week, but I did manage to get a little done: Garrick is close enough to done that I thought I should test him out: By Jove, These figures are not to scale! Success!
