smokingwreckage
It'll be interesting to see where this goes, and whether the steel mold plus soft PVC can be whipped into shape. The loss of detail seems inconsistent enough that it might be a weakness in the process that can be worked around in future iterations. dglass
I found many miniatures from the Vampire box that had soft, but still present, noses. Thats fine. Not everyone needs a striking nose. However, eight of them seem to be miscast. Some are missing the tips while others are so soft they look like aliens. To each figure I did a base coat of 09047 Fair Skin and then applied 09253 Flesh Wash. You can see them in my dropbox here: http://db.tt/UxAsjql5 The miniatures are Kyra, Female Iconic Cleric 89015 Merisiel, Iconic Elf Rogue 89009 Damiel, Iconic Alchemist 89010 Seelah, Iconic Female Paladin 89011 Dita, Steampunk Witch 80006 Berkeley, Zombie Surivor 80022 Vaeloth, Hellborn Paladin 77120 Ellen Stone, Cowgirl 80003 I honestly wouldn't care if it were bad guys but I was looking forward to having a cool set of PF iconics to show off. Report them to Reaper, after you checked all your Bones. Looking at Merisiel, she has a lot of more missing details.
smokingwreckage
Those all look like miscasts; there's a lot of detail lost under that melted crap, and those noses just are not there at all. The hand looks like regular mould-seam issues to me, it's quite common in metals.
bloodydrake
thx for the pics dglass looking at the same figures mine are about the same for those specific figures...it almost seems like the nose tips in the mold was clogged. I'm probably gonna try and greenstuff a tip on them.. I'm curious if all the casts of those particular figures are like that..if so I don't think its reasonable to expect them to be replaced for everyone..i mean they were part of the 50cent per figure ..if they are just a QC issue that slipped thru..maybe I'm torn on the expectations from a kickstarter in general..its a reward for investing in something...not really the same as retail sales or preorders...I don't know. I wonder if there shouldn't be a general feedback and Constructive Criticism thread for the whole Bones kickstarter. to focus all the discussions around what worked and what didn't. flaws, and reactions to the pledge rewards in one place OR an actual customer feedback survey sent out to pledgers soliciting feedback in a bit after everyone gets theres and has had time to evaluate them. I personally wish none of them were glued together I've found enough of them were poorly aligned that I'd rather glue them myself over having gaps that could be avoided for example
Hazor
thx for the pics dglass looking at the same figures mine are about the same for those specific figures...it almost seems like the nose tips in the mold was clogged. I did the same, and found the same. I looked at a handful of others and noticed no issues. Given the amount of fine detail present on other faces (and even other parts of the same figures), I believe it's not an issue with the medium (which may have its own issues - see the thread on spongey bones) but rather an issue of a few poorly made molds or the molds getting clogged. smokingwreckage
I'd give it some time for the dust to settle and raise it with Reaper. I don't think replacing a handful of man-size figures per Vamp box will break them, and folks who just want a gaming mini won't care. Possibly won't notice. Personally I am very understanding, except of faulty product; those a clearly miscast and I personally would politely inquire with Reaper as to a remedy. youwashock
Hmmm...I didn't go over my stuff with a fine-tooth comb. I just checked to see what was missing. The few figures I've opened for painting have been fine. None of the usual offenders, though. I'll have to give Cowgirl a closer look. When I was sorting I didn't see any missing limbs or anything. I figure I can deal with the soft nose or two for the price.
araziel
Thanks for those pictures. Some of those are pretty bad, some I can probably fix, I'll have to see mine in person first though. Go Plane Go!

That's useful information to know, so long as it doesn't just devolve into a gripefest. Reaper's always been open to feedback on what they can do better. Bob the Inquisitor
thx for the pics dglass looking at the same figures mine are about the same for those specific figures...it almost seems like the nose tips in the mold was clogged. These are the first examples of their soon-to-be-retail products hitting the streets. Just because they are going to the first-adapters and the most enthusiastic fans of Reaper's doesn't mean it won't harm their reputation to send out thousands and thousands of defective products. So far this campaign has been good advertising, but if the consensus that forms from the backers' rewards is that reaper Bones are a sub-standard product and the company doesn't stand behind the quality of their products...well, it will probably won't make Reaper a lot of money. Slightly off topic, but when was the last time you heard about anyone who bought a Sedition Wars box? Oh, that's right--before the backers saw their rewards and started talking. In my opinion, Reaper's KS is a near-total, 99% success with just a few issues, but if they don't step up to take care of those issues then that's what a lot of people will remember about this campaign. I would much prefer for Reaper to make things right. Heck, I'll be spending enough on Bones post-KS to more than compensate them for any replacement product they send to me... and the nearest dozen other backers. smokingwreckage
Bob Inq., I agree. Which is why I think Reaper will replace stuff that is clearly faulty. All of my 20 (HA) or so non KS Bones have been good (some flashing) and I've never bought a bad Reaper metal, so I tend to think that these problems will be brought to heel once production is in-house - or even once the flat panic to fulfill the exactly 1.78 gazillion backer rewards is over. bloodydrake
ya that all makes alot of sense and is a real good point,
CashWiley
It does happen. The Anduriel I painted from L2PK3 has a bad mold - the replacement had the same bad offset. I kind of minimized it with pictures (one of the few times I've done that), but even trying to clean it up, it's noticeably mismatched (the side pouch and the swords are the most obvious tells). I dunno, I know it would be quite expensive to ship out thousands of replacements all over the world. On the other hand, stuff like Ellen is really bad and should've been caught by QA. But that's why it irritates me when people keep whining about how long the process takes and want their minis yesterday. You get stuff like that happening.
