Trial by Fire

Every year in August when the new moon turn the night darker,

the Savage Pygmy tribe gather around the Evil Shrine for the Trial by Fire.

With ritual mask on and spear in hand, they dance on glowing coals until only one can stand.
That's how the Chief is selected, behold how the brave is elected.

03497, Evil Shrine & Pygmy Savages were sculpted by Bobby Jackson.

Thanks to Firefox for his funky suggestion, I came out with an original idea for their base.

The six figs below are the IMEF Marines from the Vampire package, and are the first of figs from the Vampire package that I have painted. The sculpts are really great and they have "colonial marine" written all over them. I used them for practicing the demimetallic techniques outlined in LTPK 5 to do the green metallic armor plates and red metallic fuel tanks (on the back of the dude with the flamethrower).

Hope these guys hold up better than the ones in "Aliens".

Who was the assasin? By the looks of all this static grass it must have been the "Grassy Gnolls"!!

The barrells I sculpted out of Sculpey and made a cast with Smooth-On Silicone Mold Making Rubber OOMOO 30 , The crates were created a large and small one out of tiny pieces of wood from Michaels glued to a wood cube and then cast with the same material. Plaster was used to cast.

Oh and the fire is all Sculpey as well.

The 2 gnoll archers are metal, the gnoll with the axe is metal, and the two gnolls with flails are bones. The archers are a little smaller than the others, and their scale mail is harder to paint. The bones gnolls are super easy to paint wioth large scales on their scale armor.

I was striving for more of a hyena look for this mercenary band of gnolls. I havent come up with a good name for them yet.

Next time I wont spray varnish them as the sealant clouded up the archers really bad.

(I am off to do Army training from 3 August until 20 August at Fort Drum, woohooo, so won't see results for a bit.)

A coven of vampires no longer constrained by the nobles house now rejoice in their blood lust. They listen to the teaching of their new master.

Azxyskian of Garnet, and his kobolds.

He only, ever, recruited blue kobolds. A proper dragon should get them in his own color. How could he trust them if he didn't?*. He shrugged when he thought of dragons recruiting tribes of many colors, taking in the riff raff. How could they be trusted? How could they claim to have a drop of his kind of dragonic blood? Kobolds come in 5 colors for a reason.

Azx had given them some old weapons. They polished them up quite nicely, but a few steel ones wouldn't hurt**. Off, he was gotting soft! Better sleep on it. Waste not, want not; kobolds are cheap.

His mattress won't make itself!

*No matter how incompetent the Kobold, it should be loyal to "masteeer!".

** Technically, it would hurt someone. Possibly paladins. Nobody likes paladins.

A few more pics, for good measure, and for the sake of allready being taken/cropped! :)

#50015 Tool Bots

Deep in the Sigmoid Galaxy lies a planet known as Androovia. Ruled by Entropy, Androovia is quite literally "falling apart". Replicators no longer replicate, phasers no longer phase. transporters no longer transport and toasters no longer toast. The citizens of Androovia have no choice. They must call on the tool bots of G-Force in order to fix that which no longer works.

The Rump 'ib 'all Pigmys

Ages ago, on the island of Sahu, the shaman of tribe of jungle giants found a copy of the foul Nycoptic Manuscript. Armed with evil power of necromancy, he enslaved the rest of his tribe and went on to conquer much of the island. He took the title of Sciurdisciuri (King of kings) and for centuries he ruled from his capital of Mol'gorath, until a forgotten hero led the slave to rebel and decapitated the tyrant. The remaining giants retreated deeper into the jungle, but unknown to them, the essence of Sciurdisciuri survived in its decapitated skull.

Centuries later, tribes of Pygmys moved into the ruined Mol'gorath, and found the giant skull. With his remaining powers, the giant necromancer convinced the primitive pygmys he was a god, and taught them the secret of creating the Rump 'ib 'all (Masks of the God) through which they can channel his fury.

Today, brave adventurers that venture into Mol'gorath in search of knowledge, power or riches, must face endless of hordes of these little but vicious savages rushing at them from the jungle infested ruins.

Now that the contest is over can I say mine sucked lol. I rushed the paint job and had never painted red armor; it was an experiment. So if anyone has any tips about painting red I would be open to suggestions

Frankly get Mahogany Brown or Red Shadow both of these make excellent (if slightly different) shadow colours. From that base you blend up to Blood Red and then it gets tricky, but Magma Red is a good simple final highlight. With more experience you can tinker and use Linen White to build brighter highlights from the Blood Red than you will get with the Magma Red.

However to start keep it simple, Red Shadow -> Blood Red -> Magma Red. Keep most of the colour Blood Red and you will get a great red finish.
