So, I'm guessing they are plastic minis now, but everything else is pretty much the same?

This is a game that I always wanted but never got around to getting. I guess now I won't have an excuse. Any ETA on it starting?

I like the look of the game and have been thinking it would be fun to build a 3D game board for it.

Not a huge fan of how it looks to be a Kickstarter / direct sales through them, though. Hard to get wide spread appeal for a game with a limited avenue to buy it. I will watch this, since I have the original and would like all the plastic zombies, though.

The creator seems to have a huge beef with the standard hobby game distribution channels. I can't really blame him for wanting to run his own show....and I guess...if they want to create a small niche run of something, maybe thats ok.

Normally I'd fear that this would make it hard to find a game at the local game store except that my local store typically has people bringing in their 'uncommon' games looking for players anyway. I guess since it's a board game you need opponents, not fellow gamers with a copy of the game.

Distribution only works out if you can sell significant numbers of extra units by using a distributor (as they demand huge discounts)

cutting them out means the company could either bank the entirety of that discount as extra profit per unit, or pass some along to the gamestores ordering direct (making it worth their while to do the extra work in ordering direct)

And since this is a re-launch they presumably have data on how the game did last time to base the decision on

It also means you don't risk a complete cashflow crash if a big online retailer bails out of your product and discounts it big time to get rid of it (which 'eats up' all the potential direct/other retailer sales for the period)

On the other hand it does mean your game stays more niche, but if you've already got an income stream from existing fans it might be the right move

I'm in on this KS. I play Secrets of the Third Reich (think a tabletop version of the board game) and these minis can be used in that game as well. I hope it does well though I do find their pledge levels a bit odd.

Also, these will go well with the upcoming Secrets of the Third Reich KS due this fall.
