The Case

So, spacing issues aside for the case, most of the spots in the foam for my case is extremely sticky around the bottom where they glued the two pieces of foam together, a few of the bones I have stuck in unpainted to see what will fit stick to the glue. This naturally has me concerned about sticky painted figures in. Has anyone had to deal with foam with this problem before? If so, how did you fix it?

I'm quite disappointed in the cases, and I've discussed elsewhere on the forums my experience with Reaper's paint cases. At least with the paint cases, I love the design of the foam cuts. Not a fan of the KS cases at all. I'll find some use for them, but I was hoping for better. I'll be sticking with Battlefoam bags.

Reaper /really/ needs to get a new foam supplier. Glue leakage is not acceptable. It's annoying on all my paint bottles, but I can't imagine the white hot rage if I had little gobs of glue on my painted models. Thank the gods I learned on the paint bottles.

Interesting. I hadn't taken that close a look at my cases. I have now, and the glue is definately still tacky and a bit sticky. Not something I'd trust with a painted mini.

The paper at the bottom won't work. As the case is being carried, the miniatures inside, especially if metal, will slightly push against the sides of the compartments. Testing with just a slight pressure with my finger shows that's enough to reveal some of the glue under the foam sides.

I wonder if the glue just hasn't cured properly, because it has been in an enclosed environment. ie the inside of the case.

I'm going to try leaving the trays out from one of my cases to air them and see if I notice a change.

Cut a piece of paper to fit in the bottom of each cell.

Not really viable unless I want to spend a lot of time at it. The glue isn't at the base of every cell, but for the ones it is I would need to cut out 4 pieces to line around the edge in order to make sure there aren't issues. For the volume of cells I have (purchased 2 cases) it's really too much effort.

And I agree with CashWiley. The cases are extremely disappointing and reaper needs to find a new supplier. Most figures don't fit in the cells (especially with basing them), many of the cells have glue bleeding around the base that remains sticky, essentially destroying their purpose of keeping figures protected and providing a lot of risk to storing them, and the top foam piece is open to the plastic top. I thought I could solve the top foam problem by just buying a piece of foam and putting it on the top, but there is so little room up there that the case barely closes even with a thin foam sheet. I'm currently compressing the foam sheet I purchased to see if I can get it thin enough to actually work. Either way, I won't be purchasing any more foam products from Reaper as it really is terrible quality and not up to the standards of the rest of their products.

As for leaving the case open to air Darsc Zacal, I had one of mine exposed for a few days and noticed no change.

I'm pretty used to Reaper figures not fitting in any case I've bought in the past 10+ years so that issue doesn't bother me. I've figured out how to position most figures, cutting when necessary and just get on with it. It hasn't damaged my minis.

I don't have glue in my case, but if I did I'd get the bottle of Goo Gone and a cotton swab and try that. The way I see it, I could take time whining about it, or I could take time fixing it. Either way, time passes.

I bought a piece of 1/4" auto headliner at the fabric store and cut a "top piece". It fits nicely.

Keep in mind that Reaper minis not fitting in pre-cut slots is pretty normal, in fact its pretty normal for any company's miniatures in any other company's cases. GW minis rarely fit in GW cases. Case foam is cut to a square measurement and except in the case of custom foam miniatures rarely fit in those square spaces. I understand the glue issue. Maybe leaving it open for a few days will help. I didn't have any issues with the cases I have for paints but I acquired those long before the KS. The KS may have pushed the manufacturing company to their limits and leaving the cases open to air will solve the issue.

A couple of things here.

1st. This is not excess glue we're talking about that can be wiped up. This is the glue holding the foam together being soft enough that it allows the compartments to shift just enough to expose the tacky sticky glue. It's not something that can be cleaned up with goo gone unless one wants to disassemble all the trays, and even then you'll likely end up with more of a mess than you started with.

2nd. Assuming that you haven't overlooked the problem in your cases and your glue really is not tacky, then that indicates there is definately a production problem. This is something that is not noticeable at first glance, and I'm very thankful that someone brought up the issue here before I started putting painted minis into my cases.

And I'll add a 3rd. Like the problems with some of the Bones figure, there is no obvious way to fix this at first glance, and by discussing it here and bringing it to everyone's attention, perhaps we can resolve it.

Where you see whining, I see a group of people attempting to work together to find a solution to a problem.

I've got 2 cases and 4 of my 6 inserts are this way. None are really bad but all the corners where the walls meet the floor are crazy sticky so that might be cleanable? Overall I'm a bit disappointed in the cases, I was at least expecting them to be able to fit 30mm bases, as reaper sells a lot of minis with those, but they're only 25mm tall.

I'm in the same boat, all 3 of my trays have the same problem to one extent or the other.

The case is a bit of a let down to be honest, I'm used to having to trim foam around slots to fit weapons sticking out etc. but the slots are pretty much useless for anything other than the small minis.

With hindsight I should have just spent the $25 on more bones :)

I don't mind the size of the openings, I was expecting to have to cut sections out anyway to make some of the openings bigger for many figures. I've had to do that with pretty much any mini case I've ever bought.

But now I can't even do that till I figure out what to do with this glue situation. If I start cutting out sections then I'll just end up exposing more glue which isn't a good thing.

I'm not giving up or having any major regrets on buying the cases yet, as I expect to find or come up with a solution. It's just a little frustrating that I haven't found it yet.

I have 3 cases, just went through to verify all the trays have some degree of sticky glue on the interior joins. The exterior seam...I could probably stick an empty half-tray to the wall and there would be enough tack to hold it up. I pulled out the Battlefoam case I got in the Sedition Wars KS, all the foam is solidly attached and whatever adhesive was used is inert.

As for the size of the cells. Well, they're not great. Not the instant deal-breaker of the glue issue, but it would be nice to have seen cells that would be more suited toward modern minis. They're a bit larger than my Chessex's cells, and many of the Bones minis would be fine in there. Given the bendiness over time in a constrained space, though, it's still less than ideal (though I'll admit almost any case would have some sort of issue with that aspect of Bones). Case in point: I can drop my Ororo mini with a back-2-base-ix 30mm lipped round base into the BF bag and it's about perfect. She fits space-wise into the Reaper case, but her base does not.

The lack of top sheet. I've heard the reasons but it doesn't excuse not including something that is industry standard. I'm not entirely sold on the top tray sitting so far proud of the open case, but I'm willing to let that slide as I won't be testing it with a full tray because I'm not putting that many minis into one.

Maybe some talc to coat the glue? I dodged this issue with my Reaper KS cases.

FWIW, the Battle Foam Infinity Beta Bag doesn't come with a top sheet either. I knew there was a reason I keep sheets of 2mm foam around :) (Though in an ideal world, there would be one with it).

In my Reaper KS cases I've put the various and sundry smaller minis - goblins, kobolds, skeletons, zombies, rats, etc.

The Talc sounds like a good idea and I may have to pick some up to try it as the glue just does not dry on its own. That 2mm sounds nice though, the thinnest my FLGS had in stock was 3/16th and its too thick for the cases. I'm currently compressing it to see if it will stay compressed and am hoping it will fit after that. If I can resolve both those issues then the cases will work (the size really is more of an annoyance than anything as others have said), I'm just surprised at how poor the overall experience has been compared to every other time I've dealt with Reaper and their products.

Sod all to do with gaming, but I know we've got cat people with their own voids at home; and some of you might be into pins and need a Void of Blep of your own.
Or.. heck, I'unno. Maybe you need void stickers or something.

      Greetings all,
This is Ed Pugh making this post~
This weekend, I sat down and read several weeks’ worth of posts. (I would like to call out Andrew Miller and his post made to the tune of John Lennon’s song “Imagine”. Fun stuff!)
I would like to thank ALL of the people making comments here. I especially focused on comments made by upset backers. Your comments are helpful, and this is how we learn. We might not be able to fix everyone’s problems at this time, but they will all be addressed in future planning discussions.

Now down to business. I’m making this post because I realized last night that in the rush to get everything going, no one was assigned to monitor the KS comments. In the past, that duty fell on the shoulders of Matt Clark, but he retired last year. That’s on us and we will have someone dedicated to poking their head in here.

UPDATES: “Official” updates occur twice a month on the KS Updates Section. Everything that is important is in these updates.
We will also answer questions, show pictures, promote, and discuss the KS on all our social media platforms. Because a lot can occur during the two-week intervals between Official Updates, many pictures, discussions, and information not contained in the prior Official Update will show up on these social media sites.
In the end, if ALL you read are the Official Updates you will receive more than enough information to be up to date.
While this is not an official update, I’m going to shed some light on a few things.

      1) What should I do about defects, missing parts, or missing order items?
Send an email to our customer service department at [email protected] Our team will take care of you.

      2) UPS just sent me a notification that my order is going to my old address. What should I do?
Go to UPS MyChoice and redirect it https://www.ups.com/us/en/services/tracking/mychoice.page?

      3) What are the EU and UK start dates?
We are confirming AU is still July 5th. The UK has their container and is getting ready, but no hard date at this moment. We will have one next week.

      4) Where is the last container for the US Warehouse?
The last container is still stuck in Los Angeles.
We are working each day to break this log jam. I hope for word on Tuesday when everyone returns back to work.

      5) Why are some Waves going back and forth?
Shipments are combined and stacked in the order pulling queue. They are then printed in batches. “Wave hopping” sometimes does occur. Simple examples that can cause this are the picker/puller grabs a pull ticket from the wrong stack or from the back of the stack (printed pull tickets are stacked in a tray on their sides). We try our best. The good news is that we are usually done pulling in a few weeks.

      6) Why is Canadian shipping different this time?
We have used UPS to get shipments into Canada every KS except KS1. UPS prepares shipping options based on the data for Canada. Location, package count, sizes, weights etc. They in turn present the options to us. We will generally choose the cheapest option that still balances service with price.
In the past it was cheaper for us to use the service in which we imported the packages to ourselves as a non-resident importer. This option required Reaper to pay the 5% GST as the importer. We were unable to collect or bill backers for the 5% GST we paid as we are not registered with Canada to collect anything. In summary, it was cheaper for us to pay the GST to send your package.
I do not know what changed between Canada and the USA, but this time the service we used in the past was substantially more expensive than direct service. Direct service is a better option and came with better tracking and UPSMyChoice. There are NO duties on US products. In the end, you are paying your local sales tax and GST and an entry fee based on the size of your order.

I want to thank everyone for their participation and support of the Kickstarter. Please continue to post your comments. They do all get read. Please stay safe~
