Bones Kickstarter #2 Pre-discussion

CST = Central Standard Time

CDT = Central Daylight Time

However, a lot of times people (including myself!) will just use the Standard Time abbreviation, since, at least in the US, nearly everywhere uses Daylight Savings, so you don't have to worry about one place being on Daylight Savings while another place isn't, which would lead to some confusing time differences. I'm not sure whether that's the case for anywhere else, since I've never needed to look at time zones outside the US.

Do people in the US not already know the 3 main times in the US relative to where they live anyway, so that using an actual official timezone designation isnt needed? I assumed it would be people outside the US (like me) who would be most likely to need official time zone designations.

Hmm - the countdown appears to be based on the browser local time. ie - it's telling me the Kickstarter starts at 8am on Tuesday, New Zealand time. That would make it 2pm on September 30 in Texas.

no.

October 1, 2013. 9 am CST.

Wonderful! NOT! I have one all day meeting next week, a project kick-off meeting with the client.... care to ,,, GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS? Yup, you got it... KS2 launch day... and boss has already said no cell phones in the meeting :( *cough* I think I am starting to get a cold....

I feel your pain. I have a series of all-day technical sessions coming up this week. The only good news is that my presentation is Wednesday, so at least I can watch the KS when I am not in meetings.

The street on which I live is being completely rebuilt from the ground up.
The morons pouring the concrete curbs severed my Internet cable (and at least seven others) and failed to tell the cable company. I've placed a service call with the cable company but it's going to be a big job; if I don't have my broadband Internet back by Tuesday there will be... consequences :grr:

I have trouble remembering which time zone I'm in, never mind whether or not it's daylight savings... (then again, I think I'm temporally challenged). :wacko:

Also (because someone asked about duration), I expect it to be a 30-day KS campaign. That will have it ending early on Halloween, which is thematic and avoids the issue I mentioned previous about ending while most families might be out trick-or-treating. What are the odds that the KS will be Halloween themed?

The continental U.S. (*) inlcudes 4 time zones... or were you discounting one of them intentionally?

I routinely schedule meetings with people living in Pacific time, so the 3hr time difference from East Coast time features prominently in my professional life. (To say nothing of the 9.5 hour difference between EDT and IST. :P )

* - which is an odd statement, since Alaska is part of the same continent, but there you have it.

I have actually painted more of my Bones than I would have expected to by now, so I don't feel guilty at all! (Granted the number is paltry next to the number of Bones I have, but I'm counting it as a win, go me.)

Honestly with timezones I am always confused as to why people don't just go "happeniong as **:** GMT" as most of the world runs off a GMT schedule and you don't have to worry about anything else.

Also, I haven't even recieved my big box of miniatures yet (got one from ebay) and have a stack at my house unpainted as it is... But I plan on getting everything I can while I can and for the value and variety that it represents.

I took it to mean the three time zones outside of one's own but I could be wrong.

Sure, we'll go with that explanation :P

Nah... I just conflated Mountain and Central in my head. Got it wrong as a non-USian (and demonstrating why using official time zone abbreviations is most important for us non-US folks :P). I was just thinking more in terms of how I can describe the Australian time zones pretty well even though different Aussie states do use daylight savings at different times (and some dont use it at all) and without knowing the proper names of the time zones, and I figured US people would know US times pretty well in the same way.

Caffeine, Australian East Coast has the same time zone as Singapore and, ah, Vladivostok, IIRC. In any case, GMT +10.00

Yeah, I know its GMT+10. My problem was working out whether CST meant actual CST (GMT-6) or CDT (GMT-5). Need both ends to do a conversion.

Once the countdown timer was fixed it was all fine.

No daylight savings here in Arizona. There are other places in the US that refuse to join in as well.

Arizona was actually the exact place I had in mind when I said that "nearly everywhere" used daylight savings. Y'all just had to be rebels, didn't ya? :;):

Huzzah!
