Bones Kickstarter #2 Pre-discussion

I wonder if it would be possible to upscale the Pathfinder Red Dragon, kind of like how Kaladrax was (though probably not THAT big!). I really love that sculpt and can't help but think it feels kind of small in the presence of all of the other Bones dragons.

So was Anvall Thricedamned, but he's in Bones now.

Didn't realize that. Gotta say it's pretty crappy that Reaper would do that with a limited edition. Don't know how much that guy cost, but as someone who scraped to come up with the $100, when I didn't have it, in order to buy the last kraken listed I'd be upset that it'd be released in Bones.

Personally I hate that they do limited editions in the first place, with the exception of charity figures. If I wanted to buy a single character figure for $30 or more, I'd just buy GW.

I'm a little confused about this to be honest.

The version you got is a limited edition.

If they end up doing it in bones its something different. Same sculpt, but completely different medium. and a not limited edition.

To the extent that there are any rules that govern the phrase "limited edition", a new edition that is entirely distinguishable falls easily within those rules. Now, if specific promises were made beyond labeling the edition as a "limited edition of 100 castings" or whatever, those can change things. Since this would be unlikely to be a "set with resin body and white metal tentacles", however, it would not affect the limited nature of the previous edition. It certainly doesn't approach the sort of "fifth limited edition of 10,000 prints" that is common in other parts of the art market.

Now, is the standard definition of "limited edition" understood by the average person? Probably not, but for this sort of commerce, it's the standard that matters in the marketplace.

I would be more likely to buy the Kraken than the deep dwellers. The Kraken works for the wow-factor and plus, as the DM, I then get to say "Release the Kraken!"

I asked my group for suggestions to pass on here, and my DM was very insistent about a kraken.

That's why I never mentioned it as a Bones I'd like to see.

I am now drooling over having one of those to go with my WWG Maiden ship and my incoming Dungeon Crawler Kraken!

Arguably metal is of higher quality than bonesium, so the limited edition Anvall is still a limited edition; there aren't any other exact metal copies of him.

Likewise, I would be happy if Reaper would eventually sell a bones Kraken, kickstarter or later.

Ah, but that's even funnier because the limited edition dude was cast in resin 'because the sculpt demands this material due to the level of detail in it."

I'm with the guy whose pissed but I'm merely annoyed. Why say limited edition if you're going to make it again later? Say "limited resin edition" or something of that nature. I got the feeling he was resin because he was big not because he was so awesome. Great fig though. Glad to have a Bones version so people can get it on the cheap.

In general resin does hold a higher degree of detail than metal. It depends entirely on the manufacturer and the resin processes they are using. Re-doing the Kraken in Bones would not affect the value of the original in fact its pretty normal to see a limited edition resin miniature followed up with a metal version.
