Well, since you guys promised to behave, and since it's 5 minutes until quitting time so TPTB won't see that I posted this for two more days...

It's kind of an easy one, I think.

Its the Red Lion from Voltron hang gliding. Clearly the mini every 80's anime fan has been waiting for.

Here's hoping!

Stepping back a bit, earlier in this same thread somebody said that we didn't need to do any more dragons, we had enough. and now several people are saying that we do.

You do realize it is not possible to make everybody happy with this, right? SOme of you are going to see stretch goals that have minis you absolutely do not want, and some of those models might even be freebies we "force" you to take (Yes, that was a thing people wrote angry e-mails about) or options that because you have no interest, you consider boring and a waste of time?

Given that, knowing that even WITHIN OUR OUWN FORUM we cannot please just the participants of this thread, please be patient and understanding of us when we make decisions that you don't like, but we made for business reasons. For us, the bottom line is "what models do the BONES Ranges NEED to have?", which may not share the same answers as "what models do I want for my display shelf/tabletop game/box in the bottom of my closet?"

If you all agree to accept that, I might be able to coax permisison for a few facts or even a photo...

I'll buy anything and everything you guys offer in Bones with a grin on my face.

The fact that I think a few more of the big dragons would be cool does not mean I'd get upset if the next KS doesn't offer a single one.

Also, yes, that looks very much like a chimera. Woop! <|

Seeing as my Terror of Fortriu still scares the heck out of me it'd be cool to have one I actually dared to paint :P

Yeah, I just find the Bestsellers list a bit weird. Especially given how much griping I heard about the familiars. This is probably why Reaper only half-listens to us, because the stats prove different things from what's vocally expressed.

"We don't want familiars! They're icky and small!"

*Familiars on bestseller list*

Reaperbryan: "You kids don't know what you want! That's why you're still kids, because you're stupid!"

mmm, I'm with you with the general idea, but most comments I read are griping about familiars because they turned out to be too bendy, soft, etc... not because they don't like the concept.

That's a bit different than "we have enough of cool and popular creature X, now give use cool but obscure creature Y" (which to me is just a variation of "I have too many minis, I don't need to buy more" ::): ) and it's likely a useful feedback for Reaper.

my gut feeling is that, at this point in time, the bestseller list is a "pre-sale" measure of popularity (i.e., line is new and people are buying something for the first time based on how 'cool' or 'useful' they feel it is) while the forum comments are a "post-sale" assessment.

I'm with Araziel. The bottom line for me is that whatever my suggestions for new Bones, once you make new Bones then #1 automatically becomes #2.

I never would have asked for a Well of Chaos, but you'd have to kill me to get mine away from me now. And I promise that wouldn't be easy, because I'll protect my precious Bones like a mama grizzly protects her cubs.

But if that were true, then I'd expect to see things either "more cool" or "more useful". Out of the huge range of gnarly that just got dropped on us, the top two sellers are hellhound and familiars. Neither of which would seem to be the most cool or most useful.

And it also doesn't account for the not-new bits making up 60% of the list (with one slot taken up by black paint).

So I don't think the forums are a "post-sale" assessment, but rather a limited utility vocal display by those of us with lots of time and opinions - and not actually very representative. It's just interesting to see that in action, because none of us here were gone gaga over what's on the list.

It's rather disconcerting to learn that my opinions don't match reality, but it seems to be true! Fortunately, I'm easily deluded so in a few days I can go back to thinking that my opinions are absolutely critical to the future of Bones. Because they are, even if they're not. Maybe even especially if they're not.

*sips coffee*

Just how me and my dichotomous personality roll.

I love the hellhound sculpt, and I always thought that familiars would be nice but I wasn't going to spend ~8$ on them, so I admit to be biased on them.

Well, given that the forum is now enlightened on the true meaning of 20, I think it's just a matter of time before reality will adjust itself...

The cool part is, though, that now we have some insight as to why Reaper makes certain decisions that we might occassionally find odd. The sales data is the yang to our opinion's yin. Or reverse. I forget how it works. Anyway, the point is that even if all of us here find ourselves in perfect agreement we can still wind up dead wrong when the numbers roll in.

Let's remember too, that those both have very practical gaming functions. Familiars are popular in D&D generally, and in 4.0 at least, "summon hellhound" is a fairly popular low(ish) level wizard spell. Often, it's not going to be the hobby painter community that drives sales, but the broader gaming community that wants cool things for their games.
