Instead of blowing through 30 stretch goals on the first day and lacking the time to update, they might consider putting the initial goal a bit higher, so they could offer e.g. immediately 150 mini's for the Vampire equivalent and even a bunch of add-ons, to make an amazing deal right from the start.

Going though the stretch goals is more fun, of course, but if they're all blown away right from the start it's rather pointless, and there'll be plenty of stretch goals to come afterwards.

It's not like there is any risk that it won't be funded, not even if the initial funding goal is one million dollar.

I'll dogpile here. Julie Guthrie sculpted "it".

Ah. I bet it was the piece she was working on at Reapercon. It was lovely. :)

So what was she working on during ReaperCon?

From what I remember of mythology, a chimera has the heads of a lion and a goat, with a snake tail, and no wings.

IIRC it was a 3 headed hydra that Julie was working on. And Bob Ridolfi had some new undead he was finishing that we haven't seen yet, either.

This may be the classical definition, but a quick google image search of the word will give you many examples of the 3 (dragon, lion, goat) headed winged version which is likely more familiar to gamers (video or tabletop).

Not to mention that in modern usage, it could really just be any amalgamation of multiple animals. (In one somewhat obscure case, it even refers to a single human who happens to be made up of the DNA from two different fetuses who merged in the womb. That is, blood from twin A, liver from twin B, heart from twin A, ovaries from twin B, and so forth. Tetragametic chimerism. Fascinating stuff.)

The most interesting thing is this thread apart from threatening my bank account is learning about the seasons...

Id only ever known the local usage (As per wikipedia: Meteorologists (and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere) use a definition based on months, with autumn being September, October and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April and May in the southern hemisphere.) I should have guessed the US would do things differently ::P:

Despite the fact Ive only painted 20 or so from the 1st one I can't wait to see this one and see what they do with it. Only change is that I hope the name/year/made in on the bottom of the mini's gets changed so it is indented rather then raised. I put magnetized strips on the bottom and have to cut that text off of every mini.

This is a great idea... This prevents the immediate rush of $1,000,000 when the goal was $50,000 and no stretches between the $50k and $1M. I just sold a bunch of old RPGs for this kickstarter... Cant wait...

Come now, won't it be fun to harass Bryan for not having the next stretch goal posted every 5 minutes?

Realistically though, the initial influx of backers generally happens over the first few days depending on things like Early Bird packages as well as how fast the word goes out to previous backers. I wouldnt be too surprised to see close to $1,000,000 on that first day...but I would still be surprised. Plus, things like stretch goals flying by are good for getting the word out. If someone says Reaper raised $200,000 in the first 4 hours, the response might be "So?" If they are told they raised $100,000 than told again 30 minutes later they raised $150,000 and reached the first stretch goal and 40 minutes after that that they raised $200,000, they will be more prone to say, "Hey, what is this about?" and go take a look for themselves.

Many of the backers the last time around came on board for just that reason. People who had never collected miniatures, or had collected them when they were younger were brought back because the news from the Reaper KS was consistent and persistently in front of them. Setting the initial goal or the subsequent stretch goals too high can lead to missing a lot of those potential backers, not to mention the possibility of placing the value of the initial buy in too high and causing people to not be worn down by the added value of the stretch goals.

Crazy as it might sound, a package of 75 miniatures for $100 is often more attractive after they have seen it start at 50 miniatures for $100 over the course of a few days versus a package of 100 miniatures for $100. The psychology of the consumer is not something which makes sense.

Bob, I agree, But 2 successful KS campaigns I was in, Zombicide 2 and Raging heroes... both had low funding levels that were met almost as soon as the KS started... They we flew past the funding, then way past... The an update from the creator saying they would post stretch goals soon (starting at the current total, not from when funding was met... ). So funding was $50,000 we are at $200,000 and we are just now talking about stretch goals moving forward. No retro goals for all the money raised past $50,000?

I don't think that would happen here, but a higher base funding on something almost guaranteed to fund would help prevent that.

The easy fix to this is to already have the stretch goals in place. Which based on how things went last time, I'm sure they will have already thought of them.

But Reaper are not CMoN. I wont go into details, but that is a good thing. If Reaper has a path set out, they will honor it, not bank the cash.

I'm pretty sure this is the case.

From their pricing of the KS #1 Bones, and my general impression so far, if there's one company that won't cheat you it's Reaper.

Consumer trust is usually misplaced, but when it comes to Reaper I'm not so sure.
