Robert Jordan's successor is Brandon Sanderson. I have several of his books and they are enjoyable. However I do wish he'd pick an arc and finish it. He has started a lot of interesting series in interesting worlds and never followed up.

On topic, I'm reading The Deed of Paksenarrion, by Elizabeth Moon right now. It is a re-read, but I bought a couple of her other books so I wanted the characters fresh in my mind before I read those.

I agree that Sanderson is a pretty good author. I read his Mistborn trilogy (which is finished), he finished up the WoT books and he's got a couple other series out (including another foray into the Mistborn world with Alloy of Law). I couldn't get too far into the Way of Kings as it was a really slow book (only 12% in according to my kindle). The guy actually does put out a lot of stuff rather quickly, especially compared to Jordan or GRRM who put out like one book every 2+ years.

I've read the Sandman Slim books up to "Devil in the Dollhouse," and I couldn't quite keep interested enough to finish it. If you liked those you might check out the Felix Castor series, they are pretty decent. Have you read any of Kadrey's other stuff, like "Butcher Bird?"

I am about halfway through the book "Hater" by David Moody. FYI...it is set in England. It doesn't state that and took me a while to figure it out. Anyways, it is book one of three. The only I am not a fan of is the 1st person point of view. I don't like books like that, but I am reading it anyways. ::):

I'm currently wading through Song of Ice and Fire, I am currently just about where Season 3 of Game of Thrones ended so it's all surprises from here.

Most of the rest recently has been manga, finished book 2 of Attack on Titan last week and so far that is a fantastic series. I had been wanting to read all of Berserk thanks to Kingdom Death but I've only been able to get the first two books so far and then they rocket up to about £50 second hand which I'm just not willing to pay. I could read it online but I hate doing that.

After the current book I'll probably be onto some more Detroit Metal City or the Spice and Wolf novels. Or Conan's Brethren which is the badly titled collection of everything else Robert E. Howard wrote which was published in Weird Tales that wasn't about Conan.

@Nocturne you're the second person I've heard good things from about "Attack on Titan." I may need to check it out.

If you like your fantasy action pretty low grade (giants and fancy climbing gear is it) and with humans lower on the food chain then Attack on Titan is a must read.

Taking a break from book 3 of A Song of Ice and Fire and started reading The Descent by Jeff Long.

From amazon:

We are not alone…In a cave in the Himalayas, a guide discovers a self-mutilated body with the warning--Satan exists. In the Kalahari Desert, a nun unearths evidence of a proto-human species and a deity called Older-than-Old. In Bosnia, something has been feeding upon the dead in a mass grave. So begins mankind’s most shocking realization: that the underworld is a vast geological labyrinth populated by another race of beings. Some call them devils or demons. But they are real. They are down there. And they are waiting for us to find them…

According to my kindle, I read 20% of it in one night! I am NOT a fast reader so that's impressive!
