Popular Post Paintergeist
This is my first post for painted minis. What do y'all think?
youwashock
Not bad at all. I like the geometric freehands on both models, and the color schemes. Perhaps paint the eyes and touch up the banner attachment point on the female? And what do the small yellow/black sections on the base mean?
Mutilatedlips
Eventually I am going to have to paint a model with a banner, they are always so cool looking. I was going to ask too, are those marks on the base to indicate they are on the same team?
Paintergeist
Yeah, I had to do a quick repair on the back banner and didn't notice the problem until after the pics. I often use just a black slit for the eyes for realism. Doesn't show up on these pics, though. The yellow/black mark is my symbol. I put it on almost every mini I paint. Paintergeist
Found a ninja pic so I put it here, too. I wish it showed up better in the pics. Edited August 22, 2013 by Paintergeist
pocketcthulhu
Good starting point, the skin needs work but everything else looks great. I normally suggest thinning your highlights with water or another medium and put them on small amounts at a time. the highlight color looks I dunno maybe like it's the wrong color but a good trick is to use a drop of your base and 1-3 of your highlight color and thin as above, it will keep the change from being so harsh as it is on the ronin's face/neck.

I think the harshness on the ronin's face is because it was drybrushed, at least that's how it appears. Something to help out with that, Paintergeist, maybe use a wash like GW's Reikland Flesh wash to blend the colors a little bit in the flesh areas. Water it down a little bit (since you don't want to go overboard with the skin), maybe 1-1 or 2-1 water to wash. If it tones it down too much, you can always take a watered down highlight and hit the raised areas again after the wash.
youwashock
Into the red ninja. Your "signature" works really well on that square base.
Starlight
Nice work, seen from the perspective of a newbie like myself at least :) Where are the models from?
Paintergeist
Into the red ninja. Your "signature" works really well on that square base. It was those kinds of bases where I came up with it. It was originally just the yellow mark on a black edged base. But when I did other colors like green edging, I added the black to either side for contrast. Bases like the Ronins are awkward for that type of mark. A lot of the issues people point out here and elsewhere are from my occassional laziness. Quite often I will drybrush when I should take more care and time to do things right. Or, like the back banner, forget to fix it until after taking pics. These are all Reaper minis. Cannot remember the exact line, though. BTW, the Ronin is one of my favorite models. The man looks badass with just a sword and "Street clothes." Reminds me of the Old Master character from The Seven Samurai. Paintergeist
I acquired another Masaki mini and experimented with a lot of new stuff. I hate the clumpiness of the new GW white paint. Really killed the whole mini since it's the base for so much else. The cherry blossom idea is sound. I just need more practice at it. I'm happy with his face, though. The bent sword is driving me crazy. I stopped monkeying with it since I was afraid of breaking it. And the gap on the left arm appears in the pics but not in person. So annoying. This is also an experiment with my camera. It finally occurred to me to vary my settings and write down them down to compare. It seems that speeding up my shutter speed really helps fix blurriness. So at least I've learned one thing today.
MatrissaTheEnchantress
I love the cherry blossom freehand!
pocketcthulhu
Very nice and the skin looks great on this one.
Paintergeist
I love the cherry blossom freehand! I was channeling my inner Bob Ross when I did that. A bunch of "happy little trees" for the sword master.
Nissiana
I also love the cherry blossoms. I have a couple of minis which I will be borrowing that idea for, but they're pretty deep in the queue. It's a nice white you've got going on the cloth, as well, even if you were fighting the paint.
