Wow. Impressive... Theres something particularly otherworldly about them, but without crossing over into looking like magic effects. Im going to have to keep that colour scheme in mind for when my Bones arrive next week.

(Although I have to admit my first thought wasnt about the paint, it was "those archers arent going to be much trouble... their anchor point is terrible")

Thanks! they are very simple, really: base with bleached bone, wash pure black, touchup w/ bone, spot wash with snakebite leather, "crack" with pure black and bone, stipple w/ pale lichen, done. could be done in fewer steps for greater speed.

I do some archery and minis as a whole are awful with posture (im sure a fencer would say the same), but these guys are dead with no brains at all. I figure the best they can do is spam the engagement with arrows with no concern for hitting fellow bones.

Very nice. I have to say the things I like the most are the shields. They look old and weathered without looking like they will crumble on the first hit. I also like the cracks and shading on the skulls.

I like metals, they always get some extra love. The cracks are an easy way to give speed-painted minis some character. A little goes a long way.

While I am replying, why not another treat! this time a stygian priestess from chronopia, recently rescued from a long stay at "the shelf of shame". not all of these minis are reaper, so I'll mix it up to keep you guessing.

Great skeletons! I think the pale lichen is the real kicker here. It helps make them look believably worn and weathered.

The color choices are great on the Stygian priestess, but the sculpt does nothing for me. Good old chronopia, with its terribly out of proportion figures!

HI all,

Everyone is doing it, so I should too! ^_^

This will be my dumping ground for this years painting. My goal is 52 minis, but it seems like I might blow past that given my need to paint faster or die in a glorious minis avalanche.

More to come!

Rofl...i do not know what make me smile more; the title of this thread, a vision of you covered in a glorious minis avalanche, or the cool paint job. So, waiting on the more to come.

... I also especially love those shields! May I ask how you painted them?

the shields are a scaled back version of how i normally paint rusted metal, also fast and easy. polished silver, fleshwash, pure black wash, "crack" with pure black and polished silver, highlight with polished silver, done. for a top shelf paint job i would normally use a more dynamic range of metallic paints and additional rust colors.

Awesome work. I too would love to know how you painted the skeletons. I have trouble painting similar minis multiple times.

see a few posts above for a recipe. I, too, have problems painting the same model repeatedly. to help with this I convert any duplicates to give more variety and batch paint. these skeletons were painted in a group with several others. I slap down base coats and washes assembly line style and get them all close to completion together. at that point i add the final details individually. i even break the final touches up by taking advantage of my hefty shelf of shame. at any given time i'll have 5-20 or so in progress minis at various stages of completion and I rotate through these to keep any one project from bogging me down significantly.

I like your coppery metallic effect, great work.

thanks, it is a technique of SEMM that i have been toying with. i think most of my snakemen will get the same treatment.

and a new, old mini to share. I'm cheating a bit because I finished this guy years ago and he isn't part of my current batch of minis. The model (03449: young wizard) was a paint and take at a local Denver con. with only a few hours to (re)prep and paint i was rather pleased with the end result. this guy is a bit of a nostalgia piece, actually, as it reminds me of a PC in a legendary campaign of yore.

something different: Deepwars!

I absolutely love this range. I'd like to get a bunch of reaper sea critters (aquatic familiars) to really fill out my collection for an undersea adventure. its at the top of the endless list.

I love your coloring style. Very good saturation, vibrant shifts, excellent choice of accents that draw the eye. I particularly like your technique for glass/stones and the metallics. Something to be proud of and show off! The chick with the staff is an excellent standout piece in its own right. The choice of the blue to magenta and how they compliment each other is awe inspiring. Thank you for sharing!
