Is it too early to ask about the 12 days of reaper?

Paypal charges me dollars, of course, and it is a dollar transaction on my credit card, so tax applies. It is a wide political move to preserve the Argentine National Fund by preventing them having to sell out dollar reserves in order to maintain currency exchange rate and thus, general prices locally since a lot of the stuff for manufacture is bought abroad, and in dollars. In a nutshell, the background is actually a lot more complicated.

Thing is, I agree with the general direction of the economical policy here. And then, this is money that the government should refund me out of my yearly tax declaration (in principle, this January will be first exercise for this "tax", we have been living with 15% first, and 20% until this monday, so it is not really new, just upped a lot to make me uncomfortable). Problem is that it draws out of your immediate living money, and spending 200 USD is one thing, 270 USD another thing completely (and considering the exchange rate, the impact is even worse).

But sorry for the rant and derail. Let's keep being happy about this great thing Reaper does every year!

Couldn't you set up an account at an overseas bank? Then any foreign currency transactions occur overseas and not within Argentina's borders. Then it would be like someone from outside the country shipping you something. It would be technically exempt unless I'm missing something. Funny enough, this was Paypal's original purpose. Paypal was originally going to be a shelter for ordinary people to protect the value of their earnings against a volatile currency. Then Ebay got a hold of it and just turned it into an online payment system and lost the original facility of it. At least that money from the purchase went to Elon Musk who is now doing some really awesome stuff.
